It was a totally valid question, and judging by how many responses I'd say it worked to accomplish a small amount of actual debate AND yes, probably dick wave a little. Isn't that part of being a fan, anyway?
All fans are the same: It feels good to be the best and let others know you know it. And it also feels good to take people down a peg when they're being asses.
Any fan base is going to brag some if they've had Bama's level of success. At least he made a thread with an arguable point.

m2pro: "Brag SOME"? This type of thread is repeated over & over again. Of course every fan base should be proud of its teams. But bama fans overdo this type of bragging. Thus, the Team Forums were created. It was a "totally valid question" when asked once or twice. In comparision, UK fans could certainly over do it as well. Check thru the rant & see how many take it to this extreme.
