It wasn't really out of nowhere. 2018 was disappointing at a whole, but there were moments where you could see what he was capable of.
Zach Mettenberger had a great senior season, he had 3k yds and 22 TDs, 65% completions.
Jamarcus Russell had a great season and was the #1 pick, he had 3100 yds and 28 TDs, 67% completions.
Joe Burrow had 5600 yds, 60 TDs and 76% completions.
He had 2300 yds more than Rohan Davey in 2001, which is the #2 best season in LSU history. Just that single season alone would have put him at #8 for CAREER yds at LSU, and he almost caught Mettenberger's career total.
His 60 TDs that season are almost as much as Tommy Hodson's CAREER total of 69, who's now at #2.
And just think, he was on pace to set the NCAA completion % while doing this; he lost it due to the playoff games against top competition, where he "only" threw for 950 yds and 12 TDs (and ran for 2 more). Yes, that's an average of 475 yds and 6 TDs per game, on the biggest stage there is.
So, sure, it's fair to think he would be good. But NOT THAT GOOD!!!

Idk why I’m here months after his Heisman season still thinking how crazy that shite was I mean Joe fricking Burrow. Out of nowhere just drops the GOAT season on everyone. I know I’m not really adding much with this thread I’m just wondering if anyone else is still confounded by how quick that all happened.
About as glaring an example of it ever but you see this in people pretty regularly....not particularly respected in a current gig...they make a change and voila they all of a sudden look like the champion they always knew they were. This is why it is good to get out of your comfort zone...change is not scary it is exciting because it is an opportunity. Joe Burrow is an inspiration for anyone who wants to accept it.....the bastard....LOL....if you ain't an LSU fan you can admire him without liking the scoundrel. Just kidding, he also seems like a pretty good person.....

I kept thinking surely he is going to make a costly mistake somewhere at some point.... never happened. He was pretty much perfect every game. He was Michael Jordan in cleats last season.

His worst completion percentage, by FAR, was against Clemson for the national title. I guess you could say that was expected, given the competition... ok, so he was 63.3%. Mortal, right? 463 yds, 5 TDs and 0 int, another TD rushing. Maybe not
His worst yardage game was wk 1 against Ga Southern, 278 yds. 23-27 with 5 TDs and 0 int.
His worst scoring production was against Auburn, 1 TD and 1 int, with a TD rushing. 32-42 for 321 yds.
Sloppiest game (2 ints) was against Ole Miss; 32-42 again for 489 yds and 5 TDs. There was never an off-game or a letdown.
And in big moments, he rose up instead of wavered. Clemson game already mentioned. Bama after the Tide rallied to get within a TD in the 2nd half, he was 10-12 and had 2 runs for 33 yds. At Texas when Erhlinger got hot, he got hotter. Against Ga for the SEC, they thought they had him sacked, and he scrambles and throws a 50 yd bomb.
And how would he handle the playoff pressure... Jesus, if they would have left him in against Oklahoma he'd have had 800 yds.
You literally could not have made this up; if you wrote a fantasy about your favorite team, you'd dial it back because, you know, you want to stay SOMEWHAT realistic . I mean, his average was 23-29, 378 yds and 4 TDs.

65: 6
Cam couldn’t touch that !!!
What a System LSU has for “average QBs with small hands”
That’s unheard of having an 11:1 TD ratio
Has anyone ever heard of such a ratio in NFL or College or HS FB
Joe could be the greatest QB of the modern CFB era for a long Long Long Long time
Wait Donkey!
Wasn’t Myles Brennan 48-3
A 16:1 ratio
When he last started a FB game!!!
