Remember A Smith? This made an impact on the bama coaches. The news was that they have had 3 team meetings since Jan.They have a NFL guy on staff to talk to the players. With that being said, I bet that when MD's name came up his coaches got him in a room and gave him the 3rd degree. And told him that he would tell the truth the whole truth to them and to the ncaa or they would cut him lose. They know what it means to lie to the ncaa. There will be no cover up.
Ps. AJ Green better be careful...just saying.

Why is it hard to believe? They're 19 to 20 something. They may not have known it was an agent paying for everything (possible, but doubtful) and even so, they're so smart and know so much they'll never get caught. I sure when I was 20 they couldn't have caught me.

I didn't want to go there but this puzzles me too. He wasn't even there when his mom died? WTF?

eta: I think they might be trying to play the sympathy card here.

Exactly. Anyone with a teenager or that can remember BEING a teenager/early twenty something can totally understand their mindset.

Hey, I'm gonna tell you right now that you shouldn't go there. My Dad was sick with cancer in 1991. He was doing poorly, but didn't want me constantly lingering around and stressing about it, and told me to get out and do things to enjoy my youth. I was out with my friends one night and when I got home I saw all my siblings cars there. I didn't say anything to my friends, just to head on home, because I KNEW my dad had died.
If you haven't been in a terrible, sad, fricked up situation like that, you really don't need to speculate about it.

frick you a-hole. I've been through it with both parents, 3 grandparents and am currently going through it with my nephew. I know I'd never leave to go to South Beach while they were on their death bed no matter what the frick they told me.

Don't try to clean this shite up. He fricked up. Plain and simple.

The story was written with a super cheese factor which makes it sound fake. But that doesn't mean the facts it states aren't true. Is it really that hard to believe that he paid for the ticket with cash or a check when he got down there? I mean I went on a lot of trips in college where one guy arranged all the travel and lodging and I just reimbursed them for it. And as far as the agents being there, Dareus would just have to be a fricking idiot to go there knowing agents would be there.

I don't know that he was completely innocent in this matter, but spin it the other way.

Let's say Marvin called Dareus and said there's a big party in South Beach some agents are paying for and will be there for you to meet. They are gonna pay for your trip down there and everything you want.

If that was the case is Dareus stupid enough to go with all the lecturing of not messing with agents and first hand experience of people getting in trouble, (Julio, Ingram, Jerrel Harris, Andre, etc.)?

Would you be that stupid?

Uncalled for my arse. I haven't touched the dying mother aspect for this very reason, but when somebody questioned it, felt like it should be noted that shite like that happens.
If a-hole Yat wanted to say he wouldn't do that, fine, but he damn sure should have left off the "frick you a-hole" comment...THAT shite was uncalled for.

Dareus will be making $$$ regardless. Pro teams aren't gonna care. He'll just have to stay in football shape, etc.

Well, when a newspaper runs a story saying the trip was for him to get away from dealing with his mom's sickness only to find out he's been at an agent's party on another person's dime, a little criticism should be expected.

BTW, you tried to get on your high and might horse with your personal story. Newsflash, there's always someone with a shittier story than yours. If Marcell was really worried about his mom and just wanted to get down the South Beach... fine. But that's now what this is looking like as of now.

As far as his mom goes, none of us really know how long she had been in the hospital to begin with, and what her prognosis was. I doubt the kid new his mom was gonna die within the next few days and decided to go to Miami. He's never come off as a selfish jackass in any interviews.

If she'd been in the hospital for months, maybe he did wanna get away for a bit. We were in Denver when my grandfather died. He had been in the hospital for about a year, and although we all new he wasn't ever gonna get better, you can't just stay there everyday waiting for them to die. It's not healthy.

I think it's bullshite and his mom's illness had NOTHING to do with the trip. It a plea for the sympathy card.

I don't know if it did or not. But I don't think the kid was just an a-hole and went to party knowing his Mom was gonna die while he was gone.

You don't know this.

Your opinion is speculation, nothing more.

It's like me saying "your parents are dead; I bet they died because of drugs." It could be true, but it also could be absolute BS.

Well then your newspaper shouldn't start the article off with, "As his mother lay dying in her Birmingham home, Marcell Dareus couldn't cope. He had to get away." That makes it sound like it was an any day now situation. If not, piss-poor writing by that fellow.
