where has he been?

Sioux Falls
Fresno St
Washington

I won’t lie (while I understand that he didn’t jump from Sioux to Fresno to Washington as a head coach…he did coach at other programs) that is an odd jump in running ships…..

Deboer is a zero. No charisma no proof he knows what he is doing. I could live with growing pains I just don’t like the guy

Sark and Lanning said no for an interview

Day wasn’t leaving. Neither was Dabo or Kirby

How else would you have preferred?

While I don't doubt you (I don't remember Lanning turning down an interview) I'm shocked at this. I guess the few years Sark was there and the year Lanning was there turned them off.

However with Sark, I wonder if Bama would be easier to coach at compared to Texas with the history of boosters trying (and likley) running the ship.

Although I do wonder if they didn't want to 'follow' Saban.

Also they could/should have done an interview in order to get a better contract.

Yeah it seems like people forget that Washington was in the title game.

Sioux Falls
NAIA, limited scholarships, essentially club league with slightly better facilities and equipment - he last coached there16 years ago

Fresno St
was there for exactly 2 years to the day, went 12-6, went through only one complete recruiting cycle in 2021, which was conducted largely through Zoom

Washington
was there 2 years, 1 month and 15 days, was quite successful (25-3 with a CFP round 1 win) albeit in a conference that was self- destructing - again only went through one entire recruiting cycle (his 2023 class was #26 in the 247sports composite rankings)

so 4 years HC experience at the FBS level, only 2 in a P5 conference (in its final two years of existence)

and Bama paid his previous employer $12 million up front to hire him, and wrote him one of the most expensive contracts in the history of the sport ($87 million for 8 years, 90% guaranteed)

I wasn't defending him nor the hire. You asked a question and I answered. I even said going from Sioux Falls to Fresno St. to Washington to Bama was an odd leap even though they weren't exactly back to back. I feel like this is something better said in person than over text.

People are discussing the hire at the time, not with hindsight bias, specifically that he was a "panic hire"

I also said that sometimes the cerebral type coaches sometimes work in other conferences but not in the SEC, due to the personality involved.

That was always the variable with him and Bama.

Brian Kelly has had similar personality fit issues at LSU, for example.
