I 100% agree. They were a mortal lock to be a 2-loss playoff team as sec champ. But here's the key differente compared to LSu (remember some of this is not real life, it's if they woudl have won the sec):

AU best wins: #1 UGA, #1 Bama, #6 UGA in SECCG

AU losses: @clemson and @LSu by a combined 12 points

LSu best wins: #1 UGA, ~10 bama, ~10 ole miss

LSU losses: FSU and UT by a combined 28

Not all "2 loss sec champions" are created equal, and I think that AU resume is better than LSU's both in quality of wins AND quality of losses.

No because most conferences don't have divisions anymore (ACC, Big 12, & Pac 12) Only the SEC and Big 10 do.

Well, this isn't true. The ACC has them..the Atlantic and Coastal. Of the five P5 conferences 3 of them have divisions.

I think Notre Dame and Clemson played in the ACC conference game, than both went into the playoffs last season.

If they played against each other in their conference game thye would not have been in the same division.

2016 Ohio State went to the playoffs and they didn't even make it to the Big 10 Championship game. Big 10 champ win/loser didn't go, but OSU went.
Because they only had one loss and the other two had two losses.

in the weird 2020 covid year ND was an acc member but hte league didn't recognize divisions. ND/clemson played in the regular season (ND win) and in the ACC championship (Clemson win). Funny enough, both teams also made the playoffs.

That was a weird year for selections since not all leagues played euqual games and to be hoenst with you, I don't think the ccommittee had much concern on them playing a 3rd time since it'd mean that Bama and OSU both got upset in round 1 which seemed extraordinarily unlikely

ACC didn't have divisions last year. (or for the future starting next year).

The playoff committee will put 2 teams in from same division. The real reason this hasn't happened is more about win/losses and conferences don't have divisions.

Once again, Michigan/OSU winner is in, oregon wins out, they are in. If michigan wins close, OSU is their darling so they are in. TCU wins out? automatic.

Thanks for WG_Dawg for your link earlier on the history of the playoffs.

Vegas clearly thinks TN has good odds of getting in behind Georgia & OSU/MI winner.

I don't care what vegas thinks. Vegas exists to take money from suckers. Notice how leading up to the UGA/UT game teh line was roughly 6.5ish for about 6 days jsut goading the public into taking Tenn? Then on Friday less than 24 hours befor ehte game the smart people starting betting enormously enough to move the line several points? And UGA ended up beating the shite out of UT?

Vegas doesn't exist to predict what will actually happen in real life, their purpose is to make money. Period. The link I posted is far more beneficial on this topic than a betting odds link is.

They’re sitting in the best spot if they’re able to stay at 5. Teams ahead of and behind them still have tough games and conference championships while Tenn has a cakewalk and no conf. championship.

Ah. I didn't remember that. I knew ND played as a member...did not know they did not recognize divisions.

Ah, the melt that occurs is going to be historic when the committee picks Tennessee as #5 and leaves them out of the playoffs. There is always next year, Tennessee, just don’t screw it up like this year.

the only people melting will be UT fans and people who still after 8 years don't understand how the committee operates.

Anyone whose paid attnetion the last near-decade already knows that UT isn't making the playoffs unless ther eare multiple 2-loss P5 champs. Period.

UT beat LSU, away, worse than UG beat UT, at home. Now consider that LSU is SEC champ (in this scenario) and the nod could definitely go to UT to be the second SEC team.

In a three way discussion, Tennessee could come out on top of UG.
