He's baby soft in a baby soft conference. Hasn't won the big game, but he's been to the Championship several times. I would have given him a chance.

I would have been very happy with Fickell, Riley, or Aranda. I think Kelly is obviously in that tier or better. I didn't think he would be willing to leave Notre Dame and didn't consider him possible any more than a Saban, Meyer, or Day.
You take your best shot with any coaching hire. I think this (and the USC process) were adult, professional searches that give both schools a chance to compete for championships. Will they work? We'll see. But I love the attempt.

I don't know what posts you have been reading... there are a lot of folks who wanted Riley and many not happy with Kelly. And not necessarily the sam people either.

I would have been happy with Riley. I'm also happy with Kelly. I honestly think BK will have more success sooner at LSU than Riley would have.

What?!?! That’s straight bullshite! He had a hit and miss on every coach he wanted then attempted Kelley. Throw a bunch a money at him and say “You were my first choice”. It’s not hard to lie, it’s hard to back it up.
