That's an interesting interpretation of being down 25-13 with a minute to go

State scored to make it 19-13 in the 4th- on the next drive, Bama picked up:

3rd and 5
3rd and 8
3rd and 10

State forces a punt right there- it's anybody's ballgame with half a quarter to go.

Exactly, and Mullen kept running the ball and Saban just let him have the short yards and run out the clock. Mullen was gunning for that moral victory.

As many of you will see this Fall- graduation made State better in alot of areas. Mullen's loyalty to Sr's kept playing time away from more talented back-ups. The starters we lost are being replaced by veterans with more overall talent.

Except against LSU rt? When no starters were playing when LSU tried to come back. Even though a few of those guys you listed were still playing.

You should have seen the upgrade Texas had when they replaced 3 star Colt McCoy with 5 star Garrett Gilbert, or when 3 star Johnny Manziel was replaced by 4 star Kenny Thrill. They were both quite remarkable...

I'm definitely someone that doesnt view stars as an end all- but that has been what The Rant has used against State and Mullen for years.

My biggest point was about the "starters" label. When one of your starting WR's is 8th on the team in receptions- you're not losing much- especially when his back-up had more receptions and TD's

It's undeniable that MSU is losing a good amount of talent. Just because the statistics don't quite shake out right where the starter has the highest numbers, that player was still considered by Mullen to be the best player. If you think Mullen's a decent coach than you should probably respect the notion that losing a starter equates to losing one of your best players at that position regardless of tangible production. I don't think MSU is crippled to a 6-6 record like some coaches are saying, but I do find it reasonable that they take a small (and possibly temporary) step back for this season. Teams that don't recruit on an elite level (in the SEC) are very subject to peaks and lows. MSU is starting to recruit better and better so while there will be more stable success in their future, I do think MSU sees another low to go with the peak we just saw. 8-4 is my personal prediction. Losses to Bama, LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M.

Reasonable thinking in such a terrible thread.

Leave it to coonass to make an argument based on recruiting stars.

Yeah. Downplaying the effectiveness of Robinson and others because they weren't highly recruited by SEC schools is an arse-backward argument. The odds of any of the running backs in '15 playing as well as Robinson are slim and none. They do have the best QB in the league but he will be running for his health much more than he did a year ago. I don't think State finishes last but they will not likely be as competitive as the '14 team.

your whole argument ignores the facts that college production>>>>> Stars.

If you are a 5 star, and a 3 star starts in from of you, he is better than you.

Also by your logic, you will probably finish last because everyone else has way more stars (maybe not Arkansas)

The only thing we will miss from last year are 3 d-linemen. That's a lot, but the offense is gonna roll.

Mullen also tapped out in the Egg Bowl by running the football at the end of the 4th while down two scores.

Not under Mullen- he plays Sr's ahead of more talented players. He runs a "pay your dues" program

aGAIN- Will Redmond was on the field at the END of every game- but he didnt START because Sr Jamerson Love did. Redmond would be a 2nd-3rd round at worst if he had come out this year. Love wont get a FA contract

or they just aren't that good.

McKinney is a top 2 round pick and a top MLB, you don't just replace him without people noticing
