It's not like our fan base sat down and had a meeting.

I'd say it's still pretty divided. But if we move to 8-1 after Saturday, more people will be back in Les' corner.

If our program was headed downhill, I would probably hate the guy for leaving and ending up at Alabama, but since Miles has a chance at giving LSU their 4th 11 win season in 5 tries, I just don't feel like we're missing Saban.

That little burp or void of talent we felt last year was the doing of Nick the Prick. While held LSU hostage working Huzienga over for more Dolphin Org control we lost recruit after recruit. Look at our recruiting rankings 2005 class was our weakest in the last 10 years.

We go no worse than 9-3 last year had Nick left LSU on December 16th 2004 when he was offered the job.

we started out 2002 6-1 and finished 8-5... it was underachieving and disappointing just the same then as it was in 2008

I find it hard to dislike Saban. He doesn't talk trash like Kiffen, Spurrier, Meyer and doesn't run up the score. He may be an SOB to work or play for but he is a great coach and recruiter and always seems very focused on just football and very complimentary of other teams he is facing. I like the way he doesn't get caught up in the hype or words being thrown around between players and coaches before games. And the players that play for him are all on the same page when being spoken to or interviewed by the media. I heard Rolando McClain being interviewed on College FB Live yesterday and he had the Sabanspeak down pat.

I've noticed the same thing about several of our players. Maybe that's why he won't allow freshmen to talk to the media.. It may take a year to get them to learn the "company line" while talking to the media.

It always strikes me how ungrateful to Saban some LSU fans are. What was our program doing before Saban?

In the 10 years before Saban ('90 - '99), the LSU tigers were 53-58-1. Since Saban arrived and after ('00 - '09), the LSU tigers are 97-28.

So, for the 90s decade, LSU won 47%, lost 51%, and tied .1% of games played. In the last decade, LSU has won 78% and lost 22% of games played.

That's quite a turnaround, so maybe, just maybe, all the Saban-hate will eventually come to a rest as fans realize what he did for our program.

In October 1998, 13 months before DiNardo was fired, LSU was #6 in the country. LSU was 10-2 in '96, and should have gone undefeated in '97. I think the feeling amongst most of the fanbase was that even a retarded monkey could coach LSU to 8 or 9 wins per year with the great setup we had. It's really, really difficult for outsiders to fathom just how bad Lou Tepper really was.

That's not entirely true. I give Les Miles a free pass on the recruiting class of 2005, which had to be put together hastily, only had 13 players, and included Ryan Perrilloux, who scared away other QB recruits.

But the 2006 recruiting class was Miles's fault. Yeah, it was highly regarded at the time, but all the O-line recruits dropped out, and combined with the 2005 class, it really left LSU in a bad spot for 2008 and 2009. Some of it is just bad luck, and I definitely think Miles has learned his recruiting lessons, but still, ultimately, he has to take some responsibility for the lack of enough O-line recruits from 2005 to 2007. (EDIT: And he has to take some responsibility for the absence of an heir apparent at QB for 2008 too, although again, some of that was just bad luck.)

I love the retarded monkey bit, but if that were the case, then we wouldn't have paid top dollar for Saban and Les. We could have gotten some high school coach for crumbs to coach this "amazing talent" to 8-9 win seasons.

Ultimately, you have to admit that we didn't start to expect to win on a consistent basis until Saban arrived and turned things around.

Give it up and let the Saban-hate go. Put a little love in your heart, man.

No, we thought it should happen, but were never surprised when it actually didn't, and didn't understood why it never did. Saban made the program more professional and dedicated to winning, but he walked into a sweet setup. It wasn't anything like the situation DiNardo walked into, as 1989-94 were easily the darkest 6 years in the history of LSU football.

I do admit that the first time I ever warmed up to Saban being the coach at LSU was in 2003, the week before the Ole Miss game. He had been doing his usual crap in the media, telling all the writers and fans how horrible they were for pretending like the game might be more important than a normal game ... he took it too far ... and then a funny thing happened--Nick Saban actually backed off. He went ahead, sort of apologized, and actually said, "Yeah, I guess this game does mean more than most others." It was at that moment that I finally came to peace with the idea that Nick Saban was the football coach at my old school. But that was a long time ago...

And by your same rationale, I wouldn't blame Miles, if he were to leave for Michigan in coming years, then say a Peterson, B Kelly, Gruden,etc..coming to LSU and being the 3rd straight BCS Title HC..

Then, maybe just maybe, the national media(sans Cowherd and Cowlishaw), would realize LSU is a monster, and a career-pinnacle-maker, especially for the two twenty-something-and-twenty-something-and-bowl-losing-HCs that won the two BCS crowns this decade at..L-S-U!!

To paraphrase Inigo Montoya (from the Princess Bride): "I don't think this sentence means what you think it means."

Also, I don't see how two consecutive losing seasons (4-7 in '98, 3-8 in '99) would be considered a "sweet setup" unless by that you mean that expectations were lowered and Saban didn't have to do much to exceed those. If that's the case, then you prove my point: our expectations were lower prior to Saban, he restored a winning tradition, and created an expectation of winning consistently from the fans.

So, let it go, bro. And look ahead to continuing the dominance.

Sort of hypocritical, don't you think? Like I said, I don't hate Nick Saban now like I did back in, say, 2002; I let it go in 2005; and I pretty much agree with everything you just posted. I'm just relating old stories about how I actually came to like Saban in 2003 before the Ole Miss game, despite all his bullshite, and you're still focused on arguing with me. I think that maybe you're the one who needs to let it go...

Look, you are the one who took issue with my original point about how Saban turned around the funk of the 90s. If it's hypocritical to drive home my point, then so be it, I'll claim the label.
