TCU baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle needed only eight words to address speculation that he’s on Texas A&M’s short list to run its baseball program.

“I have no interest in any other job,” Schlossnagle told the Star-Telegram on Monday.

Schlossnagle being linked to the Aggies opening came as no surprise to many within TCU’s athletic department.

Kendall Rogers commented on this story.

"I would ignore this."

Why would he go from a good program like TCU to a mediocre one? His statement makes sense.

“I guess I have to say it. I’m not going to be the Alabama coach.” Nick Saban said those words on Dec. 21, 2006. By Jan. 3, 2007, he was the head coach at Alabama.

That was the first one that came to mind for me as well. On my birthday no less.

Yeah, why would he go from a small, private school in Ft Worth to a national brand? My guess is he doesn’t want to be too far from a Rodeo Goat establishment.

In fairness to him specifically, Miss State was courting him a couple years ago, and he turned them down as well. He just seems like a guy comfortable with where he is. And he really has no need to leave with the success he's had at TCU. He's also one of the highest paid coaches in the country already.

small, private school

prviate schools have inherent advantages in college baseball.

TCU is more of a national brand in college baseball than A&M is. This isn't football.

Has anyone even expressed interest in him this year?
What prompted the statement?

College baseball itself isn't a national brand sport. Its 100% niche. As a big fan, I can accept that.

I think he'd be interested because A&M would give him a chance to start over. He's dealt with some personal issues and gone through a recent divorce. He may just be looking for a change. Not too dissimilar from Jimbo. Everyone said he'd never leave FSU for A&M, but he wanted a change. He felt like he got more support and resources at A&M along with guaranteed money. A&M could offer that to Schloss too.

I mean I see your point, but things were kind of crumbling around the FSU program when Jimbo left. That isn't really happening at TCU at all. TCU is probably going to host a regional this year. Both of his kids are also students at TCU right now, so that's also something to consider. I thought for sure he would take that State job after he took a visit with their AD, but he ultimately pulled his name from consideration. And I think it's pretty safe to say State can provide as many resources to a college baseball coach as anyone can.

Jimbo had one bad year. Jim has been a little off his game when compared to his peak (4 CWS in a row) too.

2018 - missed regionals
2019 - 3 seed, didn't make it out of regionals
2020 - Covid
2021 - Strong year, but fell apart at the end of the season (lost series to tu, lost series to ULM, lost series to KSU)

Time changes things. Again, similar to Jimbo when he was flirting with Lsu 1-2 years before A&M hired him.

Its not a perfect comparison, but I don't think this is an open and shut case. I wouldn't be surprised either way.

A few fans always float his name for any opening that comes available; but I haven’t read a single account from anyone affiliated with the university who’s mentioned him.
