The University of Missouri did not investigate or tell law enforcement officials about an alleged rape, possibly by one or more members of its football team, despite administrators finding out about the alleged 2010 incident more than a year ago, an "Outside the Lines" investigation has found. The alleged victim, a member of the swim team, committed suicide in 2011.
quote:
For most of 2010, Missouri swimmer Sasha Menu Courey harbored a secret: She believed she'd been raped by a football player. Late that year, her life spiraling downward, Menu Courey began to share her secret with others, including a rape crisis counselor and a campus therapist, records show. In the ensuing months, a campus nurse, two doctors and, according to her journal, an athletic department administrator also learned of her claim that she had been assaulted.
Healthcare providers are generally exempt from requirements to report such crimes and also are bound by medical privacy laws. But those same protections do not extend to campus administrators, who at Missouri were made aware of claims that Menu Courey had been raped through several sources, including a 2012 newspaper article as well as the university's review of records when fulfilling separate records requests by her parents and "Outside the Lines."

She never filed a report. Mizzou didn't find out about any claim of rape until after she died.
Sad, but not Mizzou's problem.

I did. She never filed a police report, no mention of a rape kit ever being done. She claims things in her journal, but she never filed anything.
If she was actually raped then those that did it should be shown no mercy, but Mizzou appears to have done everything they could have done, at least on paper.

And children at Penn State didn't file charges either, not Penn State's fault, right?

"A friend said he has seen a videotape of the alleged incident that corroborates the basics of what she told medical officials, and that three Missouri football players actually were involved."
Why didn't this "friend" do something like tell the cops that there was a video of the rape??????
People want to bash Mizzou but NO ONE went to the cops.

No. I was simply making a point of how ridiculously bad your statement was in regards to the article.
The article is claiming Mizzou administration knew before her suicide. That is not good for Mizzou, if true.

Yes, to find the truth.
Missouri is apparently on a mission to prevent that from coming to light

Fair question, and one that needs to be answered by all.

I agree but the article is about Mizzou not doing anything about an alleged rape instead of the people that saw a video of the alleged rape and said nothing.

Someone on Tigerboard said it well:
Mizzou is in a tough situation here. She never came forward while she was alive to prosecute and none of her friends that she confided to came forward either. In defense of the AD and the football program I'm not exactly sure what they could have done or should do now (since the players involved have likely graduated and moved on).
It is a sad situation and unfortunate of course, but seriously what the hell is Mizzou supposed to do here?
