But where does it end? Ever seen BASEketball when they start having coordinated river dancing in the end zone? It's a slippery slope.
It was warranted on the dice roll. But come on, last year a guy got flagged for SALUTING. It's retarded.

I guess it's just a judgment call, I would have flagged the guy for rolling dice but not saluting. There need to be some guidelines that discern excessive celebration from regular.

that aint't entertainment to me. Celebrate together - that is the rule.

On my soapbox again but if the players know that a flag is a possibility for celebrations and it will be a 15 yard penalty - then be safe and don't do it.

I think u are right. There should be some type of rules detailing what is excessive.
Rule #1: if the celebration is after a routine play (such as a tackle) then it's an automatic flag. It doesn't matter how simple it is. You should not celebrate doing your job.
Rule #2: if the ref likes it then it's not a penalty. If the ref hates it, then it is a penalty. I think this rule will make these kids think long and hard about what type of celebration they perform. Sometimes if u try to hard ala Terell Owens, then it's not funny in any way.

I like this idea.

Honestly, the players should be able to celebrate, this is entertainment. Anybody that says otherwise, sorry to break it to you, but this is not a matter of opinion, your just wrong.

So football is entertainment. That's the argument? Pretty weak.
Let's just put it this way: if someone shooting finger guns after a tackle entertains you enough to where it upsets you not to see it, then maybe you should be watching Sesamee Street rather than Division 1 football.

I'm not saying go and celebrate for a minute after every touchdown, I'm saying it's ok if they do it every now and then. Btw, that was a terrible analogy. The fact that I even have to explain this shows you are a moron.

That's why a celebration rule is bullshite. It's hard for a 18-22 year old football player to just not celebrate if he makes a good play. It's sad we even have to have this discussion, but I think the rule was intended to prevent showboating and taunts like the Miami teams of the 80s and 90s. But they have gotten way too strict with the celebration rule, that it almost ruins the excitement for the players when they do something good.
One year the refs flagged freaking Vanderbilt for excessive celebration after scoring a late TD in the 4th quarter against Florida. They needed a 2 point conversion to tie it up - they of course didn't convert because they attempted from the 20 yard line.

I don't understand why they can't just act like they have done this shite before! I mean good grief man, you've played football all your life. I'm pretty damn sure in that time you've scored a few touchdowns and made a few tackles. No sense in being a huge fawkstick and acting like an arse. Get up dust yourself off and get ready for the next play. Guess I'm just old school

I agree, I'm much more impressed when a guy can make a good play and just jog off the field without drawing attention to himself.
