If Mett is all you think he will be, I can't fault LSU fans for getting ahead of themselves. I expect they want to wash off the stink from that last game. Mett could lead the Tigers to the promised land, but he just might need someone to part the red sea for him. Is Les up to the task? We will find out in November.
Most LSU fans aren't getting ahead of themselves with Mett. Like YOUR comments you stated he would be better than Lee and Jefferson. Thats what most of us expect. Like I said 13-1 with them two and an improvement at QB, I like our chances. We don't need the red sea parted to win the SEC or 'Ship just decent QB play with good defense. SEC season is long and difficult we will be tested well before November.

LSU has a much more favorable schedule this year, and returns an experienced, talented OL. You get the Tide in Tiger stadium, but must go on the road to play Arky. (a game that has been historically close)
Your defense will again be exceptional, but you will feel the loss of Mo Claiborne. You should actually be improved at LB, and have more than adequate depth on an exceptional DL.
The only significant question mark is at QB. All agree Mett is talented. The only real question is can he stare down the gun barrel and deliver when he doesn't have on the no-contact jersey.
If Mett can read defenses and take a hit then I think LSU is the 2012 champ. But you have to know that Bama is going to throw everthing it has at him in order to confuse him, and make every legal effort to collide with him whenever they can.
The question remains, can Saban outscheme Miles to steal another game from the Mad Hatter? I think we all agree that Saban outcoached Miles in January, though he had several months to prepare.

He did outcoach him in January. However last Nov. he did not--Les did a better job (although only by a small margin and Jan. was not even close in any respect). Bama was well prepared in the 'ship game.
OL toughness will either be our undoing or provide us with a path to greatness. We shall see.

He plays against Wingo and Montgomery coming at him like cracked out sasquatches every snap just for practice. He jumps on defensive linesmen and tries to fight them.
I think he's gonna probably be just fine.

With all due respect, I think Saban outcoached himself in the November game. If he had just played field position football I think Bama wins in regulation. Both teams were very evenly matched but Bama kept giving up valuable field position by attempting and missing long field goals. Poor coaching (overly aggressive) by Saban along with poor execution on the trick play to Williams which Reid intercepted.
Bama moved the football from off its own goal line several times. Bama also had more penalty yards in that game (73) than any other. The most important penalty was the block in the back on Barron's interception. Bama made several uncharacteristic mistakes (which were capitalized on by LSU) in that game. I think the November 2012 game will bring even higher stakes, because the ante has definitely been raised in this series. Mistakes will again likely determine the outcome. Although A.J. has won on the road, he has never won at night in Tiger stadium. You haven't been baptized in the SEC until you can say that you have.

With all due respect that's the position of a bitch that can't admit he got beat in his own house.

Physically and/or mentally? Who knows?

I admit Bama was beaten in Tuscaloosa but I don't believe that the LSU victory was due to superior coaching by Les Miles. LSU won primarily because Saban coached too aggressively, Reid saved the day and Chapman blocked in the back on Barron's interception.

I thought UA had the much better team and CLM stole one in Tuscaloosa? Which is it?

LSU was the 106 ranked FBS team in passing offense last year, averaging just 3 more yards per game than Ole Miss. (155 ypg)
I'm not defending our passing game at all but that ranking (especially the comparison to ole miss) is skewed because we were beating teams to death in most of our games. Why would we keep passing? Not to mention passing efficiency.

Conventional wisdom (ie. LSU rationalization) is that LSU was 13-1 last year with the two worst D-1 QBs ever and so now no one will be able to compete with them now that Zach (Heisman) Mettenburger is the new gunslinger under center. If Bama wins this year they will have to steal it as the Tigers are the GOAT and will run through the SEC like crap thru a goose.

LSU made a lot of uncharacteristic plays based on last year in both of our games IMO too. But besides that excellent post !

I was going to do a count of straw dogs in that post. but I stopped after 5. No chance of answering the actual question, is there?

I agree that LSU was very efficient passing until JJ took over as QB. LSU's yards per game passing took a nosedive at the end of the season against GA and Bama. LSU threw for 91 yds against Bama (Nov), 30 yards against GA in SECCG, and 53 yds against Bama in BCSCG. All three games when JJ was at the wheel. Not much of a dual threat.

If Les stole one Bama left it unlocked, running and with a wallet in the passenger seat.

I don't think many people, outside of homeristic rantards, are saying that. But if you don't think that the talent on LSU's team, lead by a QB that is even a bit better than JJ / JL will be very dominant team, then you can see as well as Ray Charles.
I'm not saying that we will be the GOAT. I'm saying that an improvement in QB has the potential to make a very big difference.

better question is:
how much swaaaaag does mett have? can he compete with wing and mathieu? we wont know until he plays some meaningful SEC games..

He can compete with Wing and HB is he throws a TD pass, celebrates while ball is still in the air, gets it negated, then steals the refs flag.

I agree that with a competent QB LSU is a dangerous team. However, Jarrett Lee was leading the SEC in passing efficiency until he was pancaked by Hightower and proceeded to go 3 of 7 with 2 interceptions. In Les Miles' eyes, he never recovered. Going against a CNS defense can have career altering consequences. I think Bama will welcome Mett into the SEC. However, if Mett passes that test, LSU could be on their way to a natty.
