FIRST, the Senor Bowl is not a reward for a good season. It just isn't. It is all about the NFL.

Does it help that Coker is a Mobile guy? Sure, it pleases the sponsors to have a sellout. Was he chosen over another guy the NFL wanted to evaluate because he is an Alabama or Mobile guy? Not on your life.

Savage: The Senior Bowl is in Mobile, Ala. Jake Coker is a Mobile-native. We’ve got a game and tickets to sell.

Is Allen a pro prospect? Coker is a huge dude who hasn't had a lot of actual playing time. I could see a team taking him late and seeing what they can make of him.

What part of that quote disproves what he said? Savage never said anything about the relative NFL-prospects of Allen and Coker.

I mean, it wouldn't shock me if they only took him because he's from Mobile, but Allen's stats don't necessarily mean the NFL is interested.

A day before the interview Bo said they were going to find out why Coker was taken over Allen, and while admittedly I haven't actually listened to the interview, Bo obviously asked the question. Had Savage mentioned that Coker was the better NFL prospect, Bo would have tweeted it. He did go on to say that he thought Allen would get drafted though.

Coker isn't going to be drafted. He's a serviceable college QB who has developed well over the course of the season.

That is all he is.

I listened to the interview with Savage. It was pretty clear that, while he explained the situation well and defended their decision, Savage felt a little uncomfortable with the Coked/Allen deal. Basically admitted that Allen is a better QB but Coker will sell tickets. Did imply Allen will likely end up in the Senior Bowl (Dak ain't coming most likely).

Coker is much a more dynamic quarterback. Allen would be worthless without Hunter Henry bailing him out every single play.
Statements such as this (if not solely intended as a troll)helps separate you from the herd by making it obvious that you don't know shite about football.

To the OP's question.....a few more bammers in seats by having Coker in the lineup.

This is entirely consistent with what I said. Also, Coker would not be invited if there were no NFL teams interested in a closer look.

They are complementary ideas: Coker has NFL interest. Coker will help sell tickets and make sponsors like us happy. Allen has NFL interest. He won't sell as many tickets. Who do you choose if you are the Senior bowl? You choose Coker. IF Coker had no NFL interest, you choose Allen. It is really very simple.

If it were all about numbers, Graham Harrell and Colt Brennan would have been top 5 picks. Skills > numbers.
