Oops my bad. Aub is a good example however of how quickly the worm can turn. Aub has always had a small margin for error though. They are at a major disadvantge, especially now with Saban there, to the Tide in recruting the state of Alabama. That means just a bad break here or there in recruting or a misstep in coaching choice and....boom....away we go down the slippery slope.
This can happen to any school, including LSU. That's why I am going to enjoy our current position as much as possible...tomorrow's success is never guaranteed!!

You say you've heard this same "shite" in those years you listed but we weren't even ranked going into those season.
I lived in Miss and heard all this before. After every bad season and every decent season: "wait til next year..."we're loaded"..."we got rid of cutliffe"..."we got rid of oregeron"..."what happened at Tenn when a Mannning left there?" blah...blah...blah. It's always great to believe you're gonna do better next year, but trust me...I've heard all this shite before. It's just different delusional scenario.

Kind of makes me wonder, if Nutt doesn't recruit well, why doesn't Ole Miss get into the "Hire great recruiters to our staff" derby?
They hired Orgeron as their head coach for his recruiting skills. Why don't they get into the bidding war for hiring away good assistants?
LSU, Tennesse, Alabama and Auburn have all just hired guys to recruit, why aren't they gtting into the fray?
Did they see MSU,their instate rival, try unsuccessfully to hire Florida's receivers coach and make the decission to not put themselves through some type of public humiliation?
Does their recent success keep them from the posibility of improving their staff?
If recruiting is Nutt's weakness, shouldn't they make an effort to get help in this all important aspect of SEC Football?
Don't they see how important recruiting is to the most successful SEC teams?
Nutt's old team is being touted for the class they have coming in. Petrino is supposedly getting a great class that includes some talented defensive backs, a position the Hogs have excelled in the past. He's an offensive guy but he must realize defense is really important in the SEC.
If the Hogs want to win, Nutt better get better at recruiting or get help.
He definately has a better talent pool in Mississippi than he did in Arkansas.
I think his instate reruiting will be the key to the Rebels success. he may have to place a lot of guys in Junior college for two years and then have them for two.
With the Cotton Bowl win, Nutt needs to strike while the iron is gettng warmer.
He's got SEC speed on both sides of the ball and a very talented quarterback. He needs to get some good players to keep a good thing going.
If you believe that history repeats itself, remember that Houston's best winning percentage at Arkansas was his first year with Danny Ford's players.
IMO, Nutt does not do well when having coaches forced onto his staff. Not sure forcing a good recruiting coach on him would succeed, even though it would make sense.
Ole Misses future, they will be a consistent middle of the pack team. While Miss has more talent, not much of that talent will see Oxford.
That said, I certainly enjoy going to Oxford and have a good time in The Grove.

I don't know many Ole Miss fans that thought Mike Spurlock and that thin Ole Miss team was going to do anything in 2004.
Then you must not know any Ole Miss fans. Every Ole Miss fan I know talked about Spurlock like he was God's gift to the SEC. They were saying things like "Spurlock is going to make us Forget about Eli" "Spurlock will win a Heisman this year" were things I heard all the time from them.

He was definitely no Herb Tyler.

You are right DeuceIsLoose
Herb Tyler was actually a great QB, not some scared punk who made Ethan Flat look like Eli Manning.

Could it be that they weren't down but that Ole Miss was better? Credit where it's due...Posted on 1/27/09 at 7:48 pm to RebelWriter
46th ranked class and getting killed by MSU. That is all.

I agree that Tyler was better by leaps and bounds. My comment was not tongue in cheek. "Great" might be pushing it.
I will say that Herb Tyler is probably my favorite LSU quarterback of all time, though. We always seemed to have his number.

Honestly this is inexcusable for a team that is supposed to be on the rise like you all make it out to be.

24th ranked class on Scout, and we have a few four star players that are leaning toward us right now. We'll be in the top 20 or better by NSD.

My favorite Ole Miss QB was Eli and his ability to trip over his own feet with the game on the line.

As a LSU fan, the mere mention of quarterbacks should be a sore subject for you after the season you had. You should thank us for knocking Jarrett Lee out of his starting spot.

I do think because of the current state of things on the plains that Ole Miss could supplant Aub as the third best team in the east. We shall see.
We play in the west. But yes an Ole Miss "resurgence" is an uphill battle. Im not concerned with winning the west next year. We need to compete in the west next year just like we did this year.
That is how you get the new facilities and stadium add-ons. By continuing to compete. It has been hard to be a Rebel during the later years under Cutcliffe. And from Aug-Nov every year under Orgeron.
But last year we competed. That is all I can ask as a Rebel fan is that we compete... 8 wins is fine by me...

Ole Miss fans. Save your energy for something more worthwhile. Arguing with Corndogs on a Corndog message board is pointless.
No reason to wade around in their cess pool kool aid. Let them think what they want. As far as they are concerned, it was Les Miles who parted the Red Sea and invented penicillin (the drug that saved Red Stick from extinction... syph anyone?)
Until the season actually starts and things actually start happening, let's sit back, laugh, and enjoy the spectacle that is Corndog Nation.
