Ole Miss is benefiting from Orgeron playing these guys early in their careers. Their team is battle tested.
You could see this occurring while O was at Ole Miss. His teams were close in a lot of games but always came up short due to bad QB play and inexperience. Ole Miss gets a QB and the young guys grow up and they now have a good football team.
Amazing!!!!
I think Ole Miss will have 16 senior starters in 2009. They will be in every game they play and win most. I think they will come up short in winning the West. LSU or Bama will beat them at home for the tie breaker.
Their schedule could not be any more favorable though. This is the year to do it.
2010 will be back to reality for the Rebs. They have to replace just about everyone on the field and Nutt is not bringing in the type of talent to reload.

Ole Miss is ranked 9th in the SEC this year in recruiting 45th nationally! How is that "getting better"?
First, it's only January... by the time we get about 3 or 4 new 4 stars, it'll be in the the 30's.
We are already in the top 25 on scout.
Combine the 2 rankings on Feb 5th, it will be somewhere in the mid 20's.
Plus, we aren't recruiting a bunch of non-qualifiers from MS this year, so we'll only have 2 or 3 academic causalities.
Since everyone one here loves to talk about how Nutt sucks as a program/long-term coach, he took Arky to Atlanta twice in 10 years with these types of low-ranked recruiting classes... so that kind of success is good enough for us right now.

I actually kind of agree with the above poster. We've got a lot of players coming back from a good team and the QB position already set. Everyone expecting Ole Miss to fall off the map next year is just upset the runts got the better of most of y'all this year.
2010 though, ugh...hopefully Snead will be back to take some of the burden off but there is a lot of talent to replace. Too much talent to replace. A good quarterback though, I'd be thrilled just to make three straight bowls.

I hope everyone is thinking that way this year. Any other team returns what we do and the top ten talk would be justified. Keep talking history because it doesn't really matter what happened yesterday, only what will happen tomorrow.
Two in a row over LSU is gonna feel mighty good.

It seems people are getting nervous about Ole Miss next year.

No kidding cutie. It reminds me of how the board looked after Bama beat Clemson and it looked like they may have a good team. Fear and loathing. It's funny to see though after all of the recent down years. LSU fans...the big bad Tigers seem a little worried about the wee Rebels of Oxford.

I'll be the first to admit it, I dread having to play you guys this year. I think Ole Miss has a real good shot at winning the West.

Dread something I'd save for playing Florida this year. That being said, we're taking y'all down this year.

I'm hoping this will be a choke by yall at your place this year. I think Ole Miss will definately have a good shot at the west this year.

You know, I've just got to say something. I see over and over again people talking about what good game coach Nutt is, and what a poor recruiter he is. I can't really speak to the recruiting charge, but I think his game day coaching is greatly overrated. His teams always play hard and with enthusiasm, which is important. But he's made some seriously poor game day coaching decisions the last few years at Arkansas. He let LSU off the hook a couple of times by passing the ball late in games when we couldn't stop the run to save our life. And I remember a 4th and 1 against Tennessee two years ago when he decided not to let McFadden or Felix Jones carry the ball....Again, his teams are motivated, but from a strictly X and O's standpoint he's not the great schemer many are making him out to be.

Coach O even said before he was fired that next year which was last year would finally be the team he worked hard to recruit. He said thats when things would turn around if he could get another year. He got fired and Nut got the benifits. We will see how he maintains but I think last year is as good as it gets for Ole Miss. But if everyone has a bad year in the west maybe so. It was rebuilding last year for almost all of the west. Alabama and Ole Miss took advantage of it.

We averaged 32+ points per game with Jevan Snead and a bunch of "crappy" 2 and 3 stars (hear that, Bammer?), so I'd say Nutt is a good game day coach
Seriously, I liked his gameday decisions and play calling much more than Coach O (dumb) and Cutcliffe (conservative)

After the 31-13 spanking they gave us last year, I am willing to concede they are on the rise. Most importantly they have a qb that will give them a chance to win every game next year.

Apples to oranges man. You or I sleeping with Jessica Alba is like North Dakota Tech beating Florida in Pasadena next year.
