These things go in cycles.

Tennessee won the first BCS title in 1998, then LSU split with USC in 2003** and Florida won it outright in 2006.

That started a run of 7-straight BCS championships by the SEC through 2012, so guess what they did?

Then the SEC lost the first CFP but ultimately won 6 CFP championships, so guess what they did?

College football will change to capitulate the whiners who want so badly to participate, the SEC will adjust, and they'll be talking about changing to some different system in a few years so that Purdue and UMass Lowell don't feel left out.

The question is, will we still be watching by that point?

Don't know what you're complaining about, those Jacksonville State / Georgia Southern playoff games are going to be a lot of fun.

A lot, and it would be deserved. Two years in a row is not an anomaly.

As much trash as the SEC has talked and been able to shove in their face, I can’t blame them for a few victory laps this season. Of A&M and SEC held serve and Georgia didn’t lose their QB it’s a different narrative.

Well, they were getting wrecked in the BCS by sec teams, so then we changed the rules to a 4 team playoff selected by an obscure committee (no one wanted a committee, everyone was fine with the computer rankings). Then, they were still getting wrecked by sec teams, so they said screw it let's allow NIL to see if we can start buying some championships. Then they created a 12 team playoff to further dilute the ratio of sec teams in the field. It's pretty obvious that these decisions all weakened the SECs grasp on CFB for the time being. The vast majority of talent is obviously located in southern states. Other regions of the country pretty much had no chance of winning without changing the rules. So, they did.

SEC: 14 (5 teams)
Big 10: 4 (2 teams)
ACC: 3 (2 teams)
Big 12: 2 (2 teams)
Pac10: 2 (1 team)
Big East: 1 (1 team)

Big IF, but IF they do, someone should finally congratulate the B1G for passing the ACC this century.

I guess that depends on your cutoff for anomalous.

Since 2000, the same conference won in consecutive years 6 times.

Number of 2-year streaks

SEC: 5
Pac 12: 1

On the other hand, a team other than an SEC team won in consecutive years 3 times, most recently 2014.

In other words, it happens and isn't necessarily indicative of a shift from the SEC to the Big 10.

One important thing to remember is that the Big 10 is still a relatively weak conference, they just went from 2 good teams to 4.
