They are pointed down or horizontal to the ground in combat. It's impossible for them to be pointed up unless you flip the bird in the air.
When the spur is close the the ground, the gamecock is standing. When the spur is up in the air, it's slashing at the opponent.

I know having to battle a rooster for about 3 months before he became Sunday dinner.
1. It shouldn't have taken you 3 months to kill a rooster.
2. If you're eating roosters you're farming wrong.
3. The rooster didn't like you b/c it knew it could establish dominance over you. You should have avoided eye contact and kept walking.

I'd be good with that.

I was in 2nd grade. It was my grandfather's rooster. You don't kill grandpa's rooster. I just toughed it out like a country boy should.
Eating rooster was a one time thing. Think revenge.
I have no doubt that rooster wanted to dominate a second grader. I was the smallest thing on the farm that he could access. There was no stopping him or negotiating. Bashing him in the head with a metal trash can lid didn't deter him. Swatting him with a stick didn't faze him. He was determined.
He never made me drop my books though. I would have gotten in trouble for getting them dirty.

Alright SC. I need you to cover the 6 and stay under 155.5.

We'll cover the 6 but you probably should have taken the over. Depends on if Auburn hits threes like they did against UT

Probably Vandy. If not, at Alabama.

You also don't let any rooster dominate you.

Roosters are mean.

Just because your sorry arse team lost to Auburn doesn't mean we will

I think the real question is why does UF use a theme to a shark movie for a gator?

#SpursUp doesn't actually refer to the mascot at all. It refers to Gamecock fans making the "spurs" sign with their hands and literally putting the spur in the air.
The popularity of the saying has taken off since Muschamp adopted it but saying "spurs up" was a thing before him. It was never as popular as "Go Cocks" but I recall saying it and hearing others say it occasionally during my undergrad years ('08-'12)..
