I live in Atlanta and go to a handful of UGA games every year with a friend of mine that is a big UGA fan.

I agree that he's underachieved a couple of times, but the SEC is freakin' tough in case you guys haven't noticed. Even the best coaches will lose some that they probably should've won. UGA can't seem to get over the Florida hump, even when they should, but otherwise the program is fine.

He's a proven winner as a head coach and as an assistant.

This state, the university, and the fans love Richt. He's a good Christian man that practices what he preaches, is an active community leader, and a very positive role model. That is all very important in a Bible Belt state like Georgia and can make up for a lot of losses to Florida.

i agree that uga will be fine next year, but man the schedule is a mother. Cox will do a fine job but i am less than sold on king and samuels at rb.

Oklahoma State at Stillwater, Okla. LOSS
South Carolina * Athens, Ga. ????
Arkansas * at Fayetteville, Ark. ????
Arizona State Athens, Ga. WIN
LSU * Athens, Ga. LOSS if LSU gets a solid DC
Tennessee * at Knoxville, Tenn. WIN
Vanderbilt * at Nashville, Tenn. ??? (one would think win, but for some reason Vandy always plays Georgia tough)
Florida * at Jacksonville, Fla. LOSS
Tennessee Tech Athens, Ga. WIN
Auburn * Athens, Ga. WIN bc Auburn will be in disarray
Kentucky * Athens, Ga. WIN
Georgia Tech at Atlanta, Ga. LOSS

Lay off the sauce brother, it's bad for you.

Joe Cox is better than anything you fielded at QB this year. Martinez gets a lot of heat, and rightfully so, but the scheme itself is actually pretty decent. We need better pass rushers, I admit, but if we can get them we'll be in good shape.

Also, don't be so quick to chalk up losses to OK State and Ga Tech. We've beaten them sissy cowboys before when they were supposedly world beaters, and save for a completely inept 3rd quarter it would have been 8 in a row against Tech.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm cautiously optimistic that next year will be good - much better than you think. What has GA done in the Mark Richt era to make you think this team isn't capable of 8 wins a year minimum?

Most people thought the same thing about Tubberville. I agree Richt is safe, but I thought Tubberville was also. And didn't the Auburn fanbase like Tubby?

Tubby averaged 8.5 wins as the AU coach. Richt, if we win our bowl, will have average 10+.

Richt has, like him or not, been a good bit more successful at UGA than Tubs was at AU.

Richt has won the SEC 2 times also. And is 2-1 in BCS bowls. Richt can also recruit. Richt is one of the best coaches in the nation.

I think so too (by best I mean Top 10 or so). He's in a conference with atleast 2 or 3 other Top 10 in the nation coaches as well.

UGA "underachieved this year", but I we did have a frick ton of injuries. People think we'll suck without Stafford, but as someone pointed out we've got a 5th year Senior Backup in Joe Cox and 3 Elite 11 QBs backing him up. UGA has had 3 "full time starters" at QB in Richts 8 years and none of them have sucked. No reason to think whoever starts next year will.

We'll win 9-10-11 games next year and be in the Mix for the SEC East title.

JMHO.

He is not going anywhere any time soon.

Also, HOLY LORD! I had not seen out out of conference schedule. 3 quality teams. That is impressive and scary.

I think how Richt handles this offseason is going to be key. He certainly is in no imminent danger, but the calls have been coming fast and furious for Willie Martinez's head. Richt is too much of a good guy to throw him to the wolves, but hopefully he will address that this year. The things that make him loved, also make him weak in my opinion. Saban would have burned someone at the stake by now. I am not asking for that, but there have to be some changes made.

If we have a decent year next year, I think the way we lose the games we might will have more to do with it than the actual record, as it pertains to Richt's status. If we give up 38 points or more 5 times like we did this year, yeah, the pressure will be on. However, if the team shows up better against Florida, etc...he will have improved.

The guy has been a great positive to the university thus far and has earned some rope. His allegiance to his assistans might be his undoing however.
