re: Bill King today on UGA, Mark Richt..and changes

Thing is, people ARE complaining. The rumblings will only get louder, too, unless we start seeing dramatic improvement.
Willie is still a good D Coordinator, but when you had somenone like Van Gorder previously, you see the disparity. Willie's defenses have given up more points in more games and it's frustrating.
Worse than that, though, is the inconsistency.
Tech for example: First half - great. Tech had to struggle for every single yard. Everybody played extremely disciplined football and were in perfect position.
Second half - Epic fail. You've got at times 3 guys converging on the same ball carrier with no regard for the pitch man. You have a VHT safety playing bumper cars instead of tackling.
Defense wasn't the only reason we lost, but as many have said if you score 42 points in a game you should win. They may not make a change this year, but Richt will lose a lot of support if this continues next year as well

 touche...
Admittedly there were issues (violations) but I guess I'm opining for the ones who ran their respective programs above board and with the focus on developing their players for a shot at the big time, or for whatever else came their way in life.
If you want to be cynical you've got ammo, but I'm curious to see if you agree with the premise...

Oklahoma State at Stillwater, Okla. LOSS
South Carolina * Athens, Ga. ????
Arkansas * at Fayetteville, Ark. ????
Arizona State Athens, Ga. WIN
LSU * Athens, Ga. LOSS if LSU gets a solid DC
Tennessee * at Knoxville, Tenn. WIN
Vanderbilt * at Nashville, Tenn. ??? (one would think win, but for some reason Vandy always plays Georgia tough)
Florida * at Jacksonville, Fla. LOSS
Tennessee Tech Athens, Ga. WIN
Auburn * Athens, Ga. WIN bc Auburn will be in disarray
Kentucky * Athens, Ga. WIN
Georgia Tech at Atlanta, Ga. LOSS
Lay off the sauce brother, it's bad for you.
Joe Cox is better than anything you fielded at QB this year. Martinez gets a lot of heat, and rightfully so, but the scheme itself is actually pretty decent. We need better pass rushers, I admit, but if we can get them we'll be in good shape.
Also, don't be so quick to chalk up losses to OK State and Ga Tech. We've beaten them sissy cowboys before when they were supposedly world beaters, and save for a completely inept 3rd quarter it would have been 8 in a row against Tech.
I guess what I'm saying is I'm cautiously optimistic that next year will be good - much better than you think. What has GA done in the Mark Richt era to make you think this team isn't capable of 8 wins a year minimum?
SEC Football is dead...

Sorry guys,
Fulmer's gone. Tubbs is out. Croom got Croomed, and Richt is in hot water...
The SEC I know and love is gone, gone, gone. In its place - Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, quite possibly the biggest pricks on the planet.
I'm nostalgic for the days when character and integrity mattered more than wins and losses. That day has passed. Does anyone else miss it?

major props corny. You called it.

That must have been the most uninspiring halftime speech in the history of the game. You're up 28-12 and then give up 26 straight points? I'm at a loss for words right now...
Wouldn't it be great if we ever put 4 complete quarters of football together? I bet we could do all kinds of things...

Xenythx,
Not disagreeing with your analysis, but I would kindly point out that the last 5 years the Cocktail party is 3-2 in favor of Florida. Not sure if you were using the 16 out of 19 against Richt or not...

Man, I was really hoping for 8 straight...
Why did they have to hire Paul Johnson? I used to respect the man when he was at Ga Southern and Navy. Now i have to hate him out of habit

I'm really wondering though if it's led to this so called lack of discipline... It just seems too easy an explanation to me.

Yeah, that stat always surprises me. Please don't take this the wrong way, but that's pretty darn embarrassing.

I think looking at it again he's saying that a big 10 team has never beaten 2 different SEC teams, but that sounds absolutely impossible.

I wish that were true, but I can think of a couple of Tennessee losses to Penn State that you're leaving out. Probably Wisconsin as well, unless I'm not reading that right...

Agreed (obviously)
More impressive though is Meyer. I was definitely one of those who thought his spread O wouldn't really work in this conference. Last year was the start of the decline in my mind, but he has made it work.

Admittedly, I'm nervous...
Our rush D is nothing short of horrendous at this point, and Jonathan Dwyer is Charles Scott's older brother.
I'm opening up here... Someone tell me how we have a legitimate chance to win this game.

It'd be great to see what we can put together after getting healthy again.
Definitely should be a good game if that's how it shakes out.

Hopefully you are fine with 'close but no cigar' because that is all you will ever have.
I'm astounded at your clairvoyance...
You may not have uttered any inaccuracy, but I don't think you're being academically honest with your argument either.
By your own admission, Coach Richt is a solid top 10 coach. There are 120 D 1-A programs in this country, meaning you believe that Mark Richt represents better than the top 10% of his class. How, pray tell, does that not qualify as an "elite" coach?
Is it consistency? If so, Coach Richt has an 80% (rough) winning percentage, and has led this team to 10 wins in something like 7 of the last 8 seasons he's been there. He's got a 5-2 bowl record including 2 Sugar Bowl wins, and has 2 SEC titles. Not elite? Seriously?
I'll also just point out that you're very dismissive of UGA while forgiving of LSU.
Example: (paraphrased) If it weren't for Pick 6 Lee, we would have beaten UGA, but UGA injuries somehow highlight UGA's poor coaching ability. It's an inconsistent argument.
I'll close with this: it takes a lot of luck to win a national championship. LSU needed luck last year, Florida needed luck in 2006, and USC backed into half a championship in 2003 because of luck. UGA may not have met expectations this year, but they are still a good football team with an excellent shot at finishing in the Top 10.
If you want to take umbrage at that point, and claim that UGA is overrated because they should have gone wire to wire #1, nothing I can say will change your mind. However, I think you're taking a very shortsighted view of Richt and UGA if you think that this team is overrated and not one of the top teams in the nation.
