Trying to decide whether or not to make the trip up there for the gator game in november.
What has everyones experience been? How's are the bars? Tailgating? Also, looks like i'd be stuck sitting in the uppers on the visitors side...how are the seats in the uppers?
Just curious as to everyones experiences!

I havent been personally, so dont take my word too seriously. I really havent heard too much good about Willy Bryce. Its supposedly pretty trashy

I went to the thursday night game. Tailgating was average at best and the seaets were not to bad. We sat in the upper deck as well. When the game started we were able to move down. Had to go back early the next day so i did not go to the bars. Drove by during the day and was unimpressed. Overall 6 out 10. Hope this helps

How many dicks of each fanbase did you sample for this?

a Gamecock here..the tailgating areas have actually improved, but if you don't have a pass or anything then your stuck with a not so good spot. The bars are not that bad, if you're looking for a more "upscale" area then go to the Vista (you can google it) and if you want the college atmosphere, then go to Five Points.
The stadium is about a mile away from campus, but the atmosphere inside is pretty damn cool (not that I'm partial or anything

Great trip plus the advantage of beating Stevie and his little cocks in their house.

Ask the Tennessee fans... they seem to love 5 Points and invade it like the plague every other Halloween.

I went with a bunch of AU guys 3 years ago and we had a blast. Stadium is very cool....except for the damn rooster crowing every 10 seconds over the loud speakers! We were in the upper deck visitors section and it was great. We tailgated in a field, so not sure about the bars and such.

I've been to Columbia twice and enjoyed it. Nice city and the Vista area is very cool. I didn't think that the stadium was trashy at all. It loses points for being off campus, but it's not a dump (like War Memorial Stadium) by any means.

The stadium was built next to the State Fairgrounds in 1934. It's a mile or two from the campus.
Upper deck isn't great, but not bad. Way better view than the upper-upper deck in Sanford -- although I guess Gator fans don't get to experience that.
The area around the Brice used to look pretty bad -- warehouses and such. There are still plenty of warehouses, but now there are condos and tailgating facilities built in the immediate area of the stadium. The stadium itself has been spruced up a lot with paint, graphics, and ribbon boards. Next year they are going to tear up the asphalt parking around the stadium and replace it with brick and landscaped walkways.
There are no bars within walking distance of the Brice -- so it is nothing like Athens or Gainesville. But there is plenty of parking, although the good spaces are prepurchased by season ticket holders. Tailgating is the big thing, by your truck with a tent. Unlike Athens and Gainesville, the cops will let you walk around the stadium area with a beer in hand. If you are friendly, walk around the cockabooses or the fairgrounds & you will surely be offered a beer and food.
Best place to stay is in the Vista. Plenty of good hotels (Hilton, Hampton Inn are the two best). Lots of good bars and restaurants catering to the over-25 crowd. If you are under age or just want the college experience, go to 5 Points.

Off campus?
The campus is downtown and the stadium is located at the fair grounds.
