How important is it these days for a kid to be a starter?

Lots of talk this time of year about "who will start?" at this position or that.

It's seems like most positions rotate on a 2-deep in modern college football, or the starters are situational based on the opponent you play (with the obvious exception of quarterback and maybe O-Line).

From a recruiting and retention standpoint, how important is it for a kid to be considered a starter?

Interesting question. I'd say on O it's still pretty important.

On D, however, you probably have 15 "starters" with all of the multiple fronts and nickle/ dime packages.
