Effect bama's 3-4 scheme? Both were perfect fits for that scheme, so does bama have guys like them coming up or what?
I want to know if there are legit guys to replace them on their level or better?

Josh Chapman and Kerry Murphy at NT.

Dont'a Hightower or Nico Johnson at LB.

There are others who may compete for playing time, but those are the ones who should have the best shot to contribute at those two spots.

IMO, our defensive front will be stronger this year than last...

tifwiw...

Losing McClain is going to suck from a leadership point of view. As far as physical tools, Hightower has it, the only thing in question is that knee.

If Nico progresses like I think he will, we should be as good if not a little better in the front 7. We are losing our coach on the field in Ro though.

how many times last year prior to the season did we hear LSU will win the west? I even heard Ole Miss would win it... haha!~! wow these threads and the talk that goes on just makes me laugh. I am telling you Bama is definitely not rebuilding but reloading... With the coaches returning that we have as well... + for bama the only downfall I see in the season is 6 SEC teams having their bye week prior to playing bama... If we can get through those we will be playing for another Title guarnteed! If I know Saban he will be ready for it as well as everyone else around him! To Include the fans!

While McClain and Hightower are similiar in physical size and speed they play two different positions. McClain was never asked to drop into a stance and rush from the outside.

Bama's defense will be softer against the run but better agains the pass at the front 7.

Our run defense will be on par with last years. Many of our second string front 7 took plenty of reps last year (especially the d-line). I never say a drop in our run defense when the second team was in. Losing Ro will probably hurt us from the aspect of getting people in the right places, but Hightower is as much of a student of the game as Ro was and I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised at how well he does filling that role.

Our pass defense, while superior athletically (corners), will probably have some miscues due to inexperience.
