Just out of curiousity, did you come into town off the interstate and stick to campus and leave?

basically.

I have heard that the area near the BWR is pretty nice.

The city of Baton Rouge gives me the Fallujah vibe.

I haven't been since '01, but it was a shithole back then.

Fact

It was bad for a while, getting much better. Hate to say this, but the tornado helped clean up and will lead to a better T-Town in the end

Did you grow up in Vestavia or Mountain Brook?

No. I grew up in a town in West Central Alabama which tends to lean towards Auburn.

As for drugs, I guess I was in the right/wrong place depending on your perspective because I just didn't see hardly any of the hard drugs that were supposedly so rampant. I was in a fraternity too so it should have been obvious. There was a lot of Mary Jane but what major college campus doesn't have a lot of that. I didn't partake of either and was nothing more than a social drinker so I wasn't out looking for it though surely in 4 years I would have stumbled across it if it was so rampant.

I too was suprised how not nice Tuscaloosa is, I was expecting a much quainter place. Once you get off campus, it is hit or miss. It is way better now than it was just 10 years ago.

With the damage done by the April 27th tornado being next to campus, I expect that within the next 3-5 years the area around campus will greatly change for the better. Everything will be newer and have more of the Midtown Village type feel. The city is doing a GREAT job with their revitalizations of different areas of the city also. If it has changed this much in the last 10 years I can only imagine what the next 5 or so will hold. It really is an exciting time watching the city of Tuscaloosa rebuild bigger and better than before.

I agree with this. We are already seeing this happen. It is not very often a city gets to rebuild the heart of the city from the ground up literally.

Gotcha.

Every college has pot, but there is (in my experience) more cocaine in T-town. Granted, that might show that I hung out with the wrong crowd

Nope, further southeast. If I tell you too much you'll figure it out. I like to keep my anonymity.

People saying this thread is illegitimate and so on.. No, it is not. The fact is Auburn University is as closely associated with Auburn, AL as can possibly be. It is a symbiotic relationship. These were former players, and a current player on the football team. The Head Coach and AD have commented.. Sorry, it is not just a city of Auburn thing.. It's a terrible thing, but to say it has nothing to do with AU or it's football program, in light of the past couple years worth of controversies, is ridiculous.. No blame should be placed anywhere near Auburn University, but people will associate these murders and the program, just human nature for people who don't know better..

My experience with the two was that it was as prevalent at Auburn, but people did it behind closed doors. Alabama, people were more likely to leave it out on the counter.

Once the university and its associates get control of 10th Ave. and the properties directly across from central high school, everything else will come together

The shooting is not AU's fault at all, but there is no question it will be used on the recruiting trail. It's sad, but that is just the plain truth in the good ole world of SEC recruiting.

Nope. I was always too scared I would have a heart attack to try it and someone would have to call my mom.

This might explain why I never saw it in Auburn, but almost every party I went to in T-town

Stevie didn't hide it. My mom saw her walk off the side of the stage at the BJCC in the 70's to take a line..in full view of the audience.
