What's so laughable about that? It's very possible.

if LSU asked Etling to pass 25 to 30 times a game they are in trouble and most likely down big.
I would say you are right and I think that would be the case for Bama and a few others with a very good defense and run game. If you guys were to depend on Hurts throwing 30+ times a game, you are probably behind

Here are some stats:
Matt Mauck, career:
58.6% pass comp.
7.2 ypp
2:1 TD/int
2.3 ypr
Matt Flynn, career:
56.4% pass comp.
5.63 ypp
2.38:1 TD/int
2.7 ypr
Danny Etling, career:
59.4% pass comp.
7.9 ypp
2.2:1 TD/int
1.1 ypr
Keep in mind that Mauck and Flynn's stats include their senior year.
3 of the past 4 senior QBs to start at LSU played in the championship game.

Etling is not good. It is what it is. He only had 5 conference TDs last year with 2 of them coming vs a weak A&M secondary.

He also only threw 2 INTs against SEC competition in 208 PAs. Look, no Etling is not an elite QB by any stretch, but he also isn't a liability either. I think it would be fair to say that he can be a very efficient QB for LSU. He's smart, doesn't try to force throws he can;t make, and he can move around well in the pocket and has decent scrambling ability when things break down. I can honestly only think of one pick he threw last year where it was just a horrible decision, and that was in the bowl game against Louisville at the end of the half.
It's also worth mentioning that the LSU offense has had little to no imagination in years, so only time will only what the entire LSU offense will look like next year with a completely different philosophy than we've been used to seeing.

Didn't Matt Canada beat the national champions with a vol castoff as his starting QB?
Like our chances with Etling at QB and Canada as OC.
