How are the vols looking depth wise on defense?

I know they are deep on the D line. What about at linebacker and in the secondary? I feel like they will be starting new safeties.

VOLS seem to be deep at all three levels on defense. DT depth is a little thin, but that should be it.

Yes, starting a thread on the SEC Rant to discuss another SEC team's depth chart a month before the football season is clearly proof of your theory.

I think the general belief is that the Safeties will be upgraded. They're fairly deep at corner too.
The main concern is MLB depth and DT depth. DT depth doesn't look as bad in the summer with Kongbo moving inside and Alexis Johnson looking to be cleared... Eventually. Shy Tuttle still working back to 100%.
They're loaded at DE though.

Very deep in the secondary...starting linebackers will be very good, but depth at that position is a concern.
With the line...DE is very deep...DT is not as deep as we would like.

I'm obviously a troll. Waiting to be banned.

Definitely the deepest that we have been on defense since the Fulmer years.
We lose Brian Randolph and LaDarell McNeil as our Safeties, but have some highly recruited guys in line behind them that probably have higher ceilings (certainly rated muxh higher coming out of HS)the staff feels good about.
My biggest questions going into the seasons are: How quickly can Shy Tuttle make a 100% recovery and get back at DT with Kahlil. Who backs up Jalen Reeves-Maybin at OLB (Sapp possibly?) and who backs up MLB Darrin Kirkland(Hopefully not Jumper).
The staff feels good about depth at every position outside of DT from my understanding. Getting Shy Tuttle back will be a huge boost for us.
Cheers on the civil convo

It'll either be Sapp or Cortez McDowell.
I'd say Kirkland's backup is a much bigger concern. Hopefully the Bituli kid can play mike. He might outgrow the position, he weighed like 235 in high school.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Sophomore Darrin Kirkland could be the best LB tandem in the conference. Quarte Sapp and Cortez McDowell should be the next two up. Colton Jumper is ginger garbage.
VOLS are pretty deep in the secondary as well. Despite losing solid seniors in Randolph and LaDarrell McNeil, we are likely upgrading at safety. Todd Kelly and Rashaan Gaulden will likely start with freshman Nigel Warrior fighting for PT too. Gaulden was going to be the starting NB in 2015 until he broke his foot in training camp.
Last years starters Cam Sutton and Justin Martin will be at CB with Malik Foreman at NB
Tennessee has a lot of talent behind them with Evan Berry, Marquill Osborne, Micah Abernathy and Emmanuel Moseley

What are you talking about? Colton jumper is the best on the team at watching JRM make tackles and watching the other team complete passes.

A little thin at corner imo. Very thin at mike behind Kirkland. DT thin on bodies but Barnett and Kongbo will likely slide inside a lot and Tuttle is a potential game changer if he can get healthy.
DE, will, nickel and safety are very deep.

Will McDowell get some playing time at LB? I used to work with his little brother. Great kid. I'm just curious.
Whoops. Just saw the depth chart and breakdown. Thanks!

You left off Picou at DT. Probably won't play much but it's more depth.

If Reeves-Mabin gets hurt; Vols will be in trouble on D

You're not seen Cortez McDowell or Sapp play.

Some rumors swirling of a transfer there.
