Wow that thing looks so much better than we I took a class and had graduation in the Maddox fieldhouse the last semester before it was renovated.
Looking good, eh?
Oh God yes.

I just wonder why they didn't but in a banked track? Do you know if there are actually plans to update the facade of the outside of the fieldhouse or was that just "inside sources" on the rant spewing bs?

Hopefully no track facility ever has to function that role again. My uncle who is an ER doc in Memphis came down and worked at the make shift hospital there. He would go work his weekly shifts in Memphis at his hospital and then catch about 2 hours sleep and get in his cessna and fly to BTR catch a ride to the fieldhouse work a few shifts, sleep at their condo in BR fly back to Memphis to work another shift and fly back. He wanted to go to the Superdome but his wife and bosses in Memphis wouldn't let him. He did that for about 2 weeks until his bosses in Memphis were getting pissed.

Kentucky completed a new outdoor T&F facility a couple of years ago. Nothing in comparison to the seating numbers for the proposed A&M facility or Arkansas (UK's only has 3,000 capacity), but a nice smaller complex with all the needed amenities for hosting a good meet. Also expandable for the future if needed.

Also, the newest aerial photos of Commonwealth Stadium. It still looks like a mess around the stadium, but let it be noted that the new $45 million football only training facility is also under construction right beside the stadium, as well a complete overhaul of Alumni Drive (widening and new turnabouts) to the south of the stadium. Pretty much all work left on the stadium itself is interior finishing and exterior footprint work.
Admin. says it will be ready to go by the first game, but some things will still be in the finishing stages for a couple of weeks after the start of the season. Final paint and touch up work mainly.
the entire area around the stadium is going to have a completely different feel to it. Anyone that has been to a game at UK before will definitely notice a new and improved venue from all aspects.
We're finally getting football facilities to be proud of here at UK. May not be the largest, but they will certainly be top notch.
Old Photo for comparison.

I really like the esthetics of what UK has done at Commonwealth Stadium. It really looks great and cohesive inside and out compared to what is was just a short time ago.

According to the Reveille one reason was so the facility could serve as a triage center as it did during Katrina.
I myself think the AD just said "good enough" and let it be. Remember it was supposed to get decorative treatment for the walls and ceiling also along with a banked track. Obviously, that didn't happen.

In an effort to continue the growth of LSU Athletics and rival top Southeastern Conference programs, the LSU Track & Field program is the beneficiary of an extensive renovation project to the Carl Maddox Field House that will benefit both the men’s and women’s squads.
Highlighting the updates is the addition of locker rooms for both the Tigers and Lady Tigers, featuring 52 lockers per team, so every student-athlete will receive his or her own locker. The complex will also feature a newly-built team meeting room equipped with multimedia capabilities
In Focus: Extreme Makeover
Maybe at some point in the future, LSU will re-visit this issue.

Looking good! Do you know if there are any future plans to build a duplicate tower on the other stands ala Neyland Stadium?
If UK ever did that, they'd be up among the leaders in suites. Kyle Field has 114 and Neyland Stadium has around 120. UK could easily pass Kyle Field's suite totals and mebbe Neyland Stadium's as well.

Kyle has 126 suites.
114 + 12 Founder's Suites
Room in the South to add 15-20 more in the future

Sure about that? I thought the 12 founder's suites were part of the total.

I mean, it's no bones to me. I just don't like to put out incorrect information.

Sounds like 114 to me which ends up being ~2500 seats in the nicest suites around. Plus some ridiculous lounges too. About 1 month from opening.

Me, too. In all honestly I think I may have been the one to give him the idea that the founder's suites weren't part of the 114 total, but rather an addition.
In my defense, school athletic websites make it ridiculously hard to answer the simple questions..."How many suites & club seats in the stadium?" "Where's the visitor's section?" "Where's the student section?"...it's why I want no part of updating my old, locked threads on those subjects.
SEC Football Stadium Premium seating
Bleh...

Thanks for the pics.
I was enjoying looking at all the new stadium pics, and then I got to the last one, with the old metal Commonwealth Stadium sign facing towards S. Limestone and all the people milling about, and I instantly felt a chill of fall breeze in my spine, and felt like I should have a plastic cup of Evan Williams in hand.
Lots of good memories in Lex.

You get that I'm talking about Commonwealth Stadium eventually emulating Neyland Stadium and building another tower on the opposite side, right?

I don't think another tower would be completed on the north side as it would require demolition of the new facade. I don't believe it has been constructed to emulate the south side in the future, but I'm not for sure on that.
I believe any future updates/expansion will take place in the endzones. Not much new construction has taken place on the exterior and interior updates would not be effected as much.
Honestly I see them performing expansions on the top level by removing the old "trailer" suites and jumbotrons and adding in a variety of suite/club/general seating options much like the recent LSU expansion. Of course on a smaller scale. This would allow for replacement and addition of more suites, expand club seating options, while also adding in a little more general seating to appease those that were upset from the recent capacity decrease.
If this were to be performed in the future capacity could increase anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 depending on if they did one or two endzones putting the overall capacity somewhere in the 67,500 to 72,500 range with about 115-125 suites total in the stadium. All complete estimations, but I think it would be close to those numbers.

A week until it opens. A few more finishing touches every day.
