How about we do this:

Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee & Georgia in one division...

Everybody else in the other.

NC State has a very small following so adding them for the sake of another TV market would make no sense to me.

But, but, but... the footprint is all that matters.

If we add Sisters of the Poor of Raleigh, we'll get all the cable subscribers in North Carolina!

Maybe Slive should just convince Clemson to relocate to Charlotte. Or persuade North Carolina and South Carolina to mend fences and reunite like East and West Germany did.

Slive needs to really think outside the box. Dude is obviously not earning his paycheck.

It's a false comparison. It assumes the conferences are created equal. The SEC has all the money. The ACC doesn't and is on the verge of further collapse. You take away FSU, VT, and another team and the ACC is worth about as much as the Big East.

That East division looks pretty tough if USC sustains close to how they are now.

Other than that it's pretty good balance. Just think the east doesn't have any shite teams compared to the other pods.

I'm actually all for this. But then UGA would complain about not having UF. Remember, those teams are fighting about second and third tier rivalries.

No. Y'all are both naive. It's about money. It's always been about money. To assume otherwise is just foolish on your part and surprising after recent events.

Someone forgot to tell Pitt and Syracuse.

FSU is just exercising some negotiating leverage. Ditto for Clemson. They're not going anywhere and if they did they'd prefer the SEC (if we'd have them, which we won't because of the footprint argument).

West Virginia joined the Big 12 out of desperation because the Big East was rapidly collapsing. There's no sane reason for FSU, VT or Clemson to bolt the ACC for the Big 12. Why take on all that extra travel?

Yeah, well, state schools have to answer to their respective legislatures and I have a hunch the North Carolina legislature would not be thrilled about NC State unilaterally bolting for the SEC and leaving the other NC schools high and dry.

We could argue this all day but NC State seems unlikely. I wouldn't rule it out entirely but if you can't see the odds of NC State bolting for the SEC are low then I can't help you.

Well, do you honestly think the SEC sits at 14?

What do they provide on the football front? Little. The further collapse comment is based on what looks like the probability of other teams leaving that are basically the football breadwinners for the conference.

Negotiating leverage for what? They're never going to get unequal revenue sharing.

They would if the right offer was presented. Again, it's about money.

IMO, the only schools that should be looked at to add are VTech, Clemson, and FSU.

Vtech certainly. Disagree with Clemson. I'm partial to FSU but it doesn't make much sense either, I just think they would be a good fit for non-monetary reasons.

As for NC State — a school oft-mentioned because no one believes North Carolina and/or Duke would move to the SEC — there would be some serious political issues to work out as well. NCSU is a “constituent institution” of the University of North Carolina system. In other words, the schools have a connection. We’re not talking Texas and Texas A&M, here.

State has a 13-person board of trustees. One member is the president of the student government. Four trustees are appointed by the governor. The remaining eight NCSU trustees are elected by the UNC board of governors.

If State’s administration decided that their school would be better off in the SEC, it appears from afar that at least two of the eight trustees put in place by UNC’s board would have to okay the move. And that’s if all the other non-UNC-elected trustees favored the move. And that’s if a vote to switch conferences only requires a 7-6 majority.

Is it possible that State would move from the ACC to the SEC? Sure, anything’s possible. Especially when millions of dollars are on the table.

But it would appear Virginia Tech and especially NC State would have to wage some large-scale political battles to exit their current league.

If they even wanted to switch leagues.

If the SEC decides to expand again.

Meh, I am not a strong believer that you must add another state to add to a conference. FSU is a national program, not just a Florida program. They would add more televisions than NCState even if you don't gain a market.
