Mullen may be the best at certain aspects of coaching.
He is one of the best play callers at getting the most from his player's skill set.
He is one of the best talent evaluators and player developers. He can see a raw 3 star and put him in the NFL.
He is not the best game day coach. He made waaaay too many clock mgt mistakes over the years for me to even consider him in the running.
Not a "Great" recruiter to bring the top talent...and Jimmy's and Joes are who win the games for you. He is no where near Saban & Smart or Coach "O" in that department.
Until he wins multiple championships, he is an also ran. Winning one wont' do it, Grass Nibbler won one.

I know that would drive me crazy at times. There would be clear better player on the bench and he play the upper classman.
Does not change that he develops better than most any other coach.

Saban is easily the best coach.
