Barber Motor Sports Museum and Racetrack is really cool.
Largest collection of old and new motorcycles from all over the world.

I really like these restaurants in Hoover (in order of preference)

1) Fish Market on U.S.31

2) Firebirds in Patton Creek

3) Cajun Roux in Stadium Trace

Not sure if you are being serious, but if staying in Birmingham -

Barber Motorsports Museum - largest motorcycle and Lotus racing car museum in the world

Mustang Museum - If you like Mustangs, it is about 10 miles from Barber. Lots of Mustang police cars in the collection.

McWane Center - hands on museum and IMAX for kids. My niece visited and spent the entire day there with her kids

Vulcan - fun place for kids to see the city from Red Mountain

Pepper Place - Saturday farmers and craft market takes up about three blocks every week. Lots of food, demonstrations, live music, etc.

Zoo / Botanical Gardens - Adjacent to Mountain Brook village. Drive around Mountain Brook after visiting the zoo. Eat lunch there or drive over to downtown Homewood, not very far away and a great main street with restaurants everywhere.

Oak Mountain - largest state park in Alabama. Lots of hiking trails, BMX courses, lake, horse back riding, etc

There are 39 area golf courses (including private ones), there are about 25 public parks in just Hoover, 100’s of miles of hiking trails in the Birmingham area, and usually a huge choice of festivals going on.
