How so? Our Asians, Indians, and Middle Easterners are PhD candidates. Not exactly the type of people to open up a diner.

Oxford is a pretty diverse place. Probz more diverse than Auburn. Just saying.

I think most have agreed with you on here. Very overrated. I'd rather have BBQ house 100x before I ate at dreamlands again. Plus, it's not a hidden gem at all anymore.

I think most people would acknowledge that it is over rated. I think the original used to do low and slow ribs and was good. The others (and now maybe the original too) do high heat, fast cook ribs and live off of reputation.

That mexican place behind Obys is beyond authentic. I've gone in there to buy peppers and spices before because they have the real stuff. Nobody has mentioned Emilghs in Taylor. They have odd hours, but the food is great. Also the Bungalow was pretty good while it was open.

To the State people... What's the deal with The Grill? It was just plain awful.

Haven't eaten at the grill in a few years. I used to drop by the old place in the district after work some. I haven't been since it moved to the new place. What did you get to eat? I don't really rememer having anything great to eat in there besides the jumbo jalapeno cheese sticks. I would go there strictly for that and drink a few beers.

I know, I know. It's just that people, even Ole Miss fans, "know" a lot about OM and Oxford that simply isn't true.

And, out in the real world and far removed from the South, it's really fricking hard to have gone to a school that a lot of people baselessly think is some sort of grand bastion of white American racism. It's all a bunch of misguided bullshite so, no, I really don't react well when people try to call me or Ole Miss racist.

Just sayin.

The original Dreamland is good, but like others have said the chain locations aren't on the same level. Hell Saw's BBQ in Homewood is 100x better than the Dreamland on 14th Avenue.

It was some spicy chicken thing. One of the people we were with ordered a club sandwich and it was cut in half with two pieces of bread with honey mustard on the side. That is not a club.

Need to add the Thai place by the hotel on Frontage rd. The food is good especially the drunken noodles.

Thinking about going there for lunch. Work in Liberty Park so it's not close, but I'll be damned if just typing the words Saw's BBQ didn't make me hungry

Tuscaloosa has this really cool wing place. Not sure if you've heard of it. It's called "Wings".

I'm joking, btw.

I've been to the original. Personaly, I don't care for vinegar based sauces that have the consistency of a thin salad dressing. I like it when vinegar base is used to cut honey base, leaving a thick sauce that should then be VERY slowly cooked and stick in clumps to my face as i eat it. Sauce should stick to the meat, not drip from it. Just my opinion.

Dreamland was very good when I was growing up in the 80's. Around the time Big Daddy passed away(early 90's I believe) it started going downhill.

Back then, it was almost like the ribs were cooked to order because it took 20-30 minutes to get them to the table. Now they're almost already on the table when you sit down. The ribs were like leather last time I was there about 10 years ago. Haven't been back since.

I completely disagree.

I usually don't put any sauce on ribs I smoke myself. I find it to be far too overwhelming of a flavor for the meat. But when I do I use a vinegar base like dreamland.

To each.....

This thread is making me starve. I'm going to Oxford next week and may spend a whole day just hitting up these hotspots and getting fat

Honestly, the best thing I had to eat when I was in Oxford was the fried chicken on a stick at the chevron next to the square. Something about a greasy chicken strip skewered on a stick at 2:30 in the morning was just magical.
