But Saban denied he made the snide remarks about Alabama and the schools NCAA sanctions. The e-mail however turned out to be a hoax and the prankster had published a retraction. The following Wednesday Francione said he now realized Saban didn't make the remarks. "There's been information passed along to us now that would indicate that was not true and very unfortunate," he said.
The author of the e-mail message "just made it all up," Saban said. "He wasn't in the locker room. He wasn't within 800 miles of the locker room." The prankster later published a retraction, Saban said. But Franchione and his team apparently did not see it before the game. "It was pretty obvious as I was walking across the field that some of the Alabama players were pretty upset about it Saban said."

KJ initially ended his broadcasts with a score recap and the sign off “and from Pasadena, California (or Norman or Lincoln or Jacksonville or Tuscaloosa or wherever), good night Miss Polly.” She sat huddled in her home in Bremen, GA watching every broadcast KJ was on.
