Ohio State 9–1 Paul Brown AP, BS, DuS, CFRA, NCF
Wisconsin 8–1–1 Harry Stuhldreher HAF

Are you really trying to pretend these computer rankings are equivilant to the AP?

Maybe 1 or 2 of them even existed in 1942.

And then - even in the BCS formula, the computer part was just 1 overall ranking, and these rankings you list were simply 1 single voter(some of them, others are just random math rankings).

If that is how you want to play it, the AP is made up of probably 40+ voters.

Presentism is for the ignorant.

You claim 1942 and 33% of your claims are bogus.

It was 50% of your claims until last year. You're going to need to win 15 more legitimate national championships before your claims will no longer be worse than Alabama's.

Until 1968, the computer/math based polls are better than the AP. The main reason being the AP poll awarded championships before the bowl games prior to 1968.

this was changed in large part due to an Alabama title in 1964 where they lost the bowl game, leaving Arkansas unbeaten and the team that should have been the national champion. The AP then waited in 1965... which led to another Bama title where before the bowls Bama was #4 but the top 3 lost. Other than 1965, they named the champion before the season until 1968.

In 1942 OSU didn't play in a bowl while UGA shut out a fairly highly ranked UCLA team in the rose bowl. That was taken into account by the computer rankings, but not the AP.

You should look into why Ohio St didn't play in the Rose that season.

It’s shocking that Bama fans argue with UGA fans. I would just count my 18 Nattys.

This is called presentism and it's ignorant. You are trying to apply the standards of the day to history, and the only thing it highlights is your ignorance of history.

Why didn't the AP award them until after the bowl games? Because the bowl games were considered EXHIBITION games. They did not count. Teams went into those games for nothing more than bragging rights.

What's next, are you going to go back to the NFL preseason games and tell everyone - hey guess what, these games count now and you shouldn't have made the playoffs to start with because you went 0-4 in them, so your super bowl win isn't legit?

Repeat with me: Presentism is ignorant.

More ignorance. Alabama was NOT the first team to lose the bowl game after being awarded the AP. In fact, it was actually pretty common, Notre Dame didn't even play in bowl games until they started to get counted.

It became an issue when Alabama did it in 1964 because of the politics of the time. Nothing to do with actual football.

Because they weren't invited. At that time there was no Big 10 tie to the Rose Bowl. The Pac 10 champ went and the rose bowl committee invited a team from somewhere else. The Western Conference (which later became the Big 10) didn't allow their teams to go to bowls until 1946.

The issue wasn't that OSU didn't play a bowl... it's that the AP didn't even consider bowl results in their rankings until 1968 (barring the 1965 "trial" season).

That means that teams that did well in bowls didn't get credit in the AP polls (like UGA in 1942) and teams that lost in their bowls didn't get punished (like Bama in 1964).

That's why UGA's 1942 championship is listed as a "consensus" title... because the rankings that considered bowl games had UGA on top that year.

So if I had gone to Alabama rather than joining the military, you would then realize Georgia's 1942 claim is bogus?

This is kind of stupid.

Bowl games are actually games that happened. Thinking they're relevant to determining a national title isn't "presentism". It's simply a desire for all of the games played to be considered.

I get why you don't want to count the last game of the season after last year... but don't become an idiot about it.

Also bowl games were never considered exhibitions. That's why they appear on teams record books as wins or losses. You're making stuff up that was NOT historically correct at the time.

All-star games (like the hula bowl or senior bowl) are exhibitions.

Because they didn't count. How is that hard for you to understand? You are taking games that were played in the context that they didn't count, and then pretending they did count.

It's ignorant.

Because again, they were exhibition games.

It's not a concensus anything, if you are going to count a math ranking a single person came up with as a poll, then every AP voter is also it's own poll.
