When you're as bad as A&M has been the last 80 years yell practice must be highlight. All the bonfires, yell practices etc.. just seem to be there to give them something to do or take their mind off of the product that has been put on the field for so long.

I thought this was done at midnight? What is this 7:00 PM stuff?

quote:I am going to do you the courtesy of assuming you’re actually making an honest inquiry.
Honest question, do yall think people look at that and think "Man that looks fun. I wish I could be part of something special like that."
Like, do yall think that is normal behavior? Honest questions. I really want to know how yall think people view it.
I grew up a longhorn fan. Both of my parents attended t.u., and my dad played ball there.
I attended A&M for one reason only, money. I was a bright kid, and every school in Texas was throwing scholarships my direction. A&M threw the biggest ones.
I told myself that I would attend, take their money, and get a degree. I would not become a “damned Aggie.“
But then you arrive on campus. There is a sense of camaraderie that is very hard to describe. Everyone is friendly, and everyone really seems to want you to be there. I did campus visits in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Waco. You don’t get a similar feeling on any of those campuses.
Perhaps LSU is different than those schools. Perhaps there is some uniting element of being a “Tiger.“ But I have attended multiple games in Baton Rouge, and I just don’t see it. All I see is excessive drunkenness, TBH
Yell Practice and all the silly-seeming traditions just build on the camaraderie. They create a sense of “belonging“ that exceeds anything I have seen in any other academic institution, and I have degrees from several.
Perhaps that sort of thing has no meaning to you. For us, it does. It is who we are. It does not bother us that others do not understand it, but I do personally find it odd that so many people who lack that understanding choose to belittle it.

The other poster asked what I assume was an honest question, and I provided an honest answer.
In a civil tone.
If you want to get into the psychology of the thing, I think probably you have to look at geography. The simple fact is that the state of Texas built A&M out in the middle of the Prairie, with absolutely nothing else for 100 miles in any direction. I think it is fairly natural for a sense of camaraderie to develop in that environment.

Spoken like a true brainwashed individual.
But then again you are who we thought you were.

Nothing screams aTm like a cult born in cow shite alley!

I didn’t watch the whole thing, but it seems like this one was different. Not so much making fun of the other team, it was them talking about what being a yell leader and being an Aggie meant to them. It was actually the least “weird” one I’ve seen. Sure, it’s easy to poke fun at this tradition, but I don’t think it’s is as weird as most do on this site.
That said, your boy Nathan needs to stop eating the twinkies and Oreos.

If you think about it for a moment, this makes sense.
Yell Leader is an elected, leadership position.
At the last Yell of the year, the senior Yell Leaders normally get the chance to essentially thank the student body for the opportunities they were given.

First time I have ever watched this. I am twenty minutes and two Yell Leaders in. Kind of disappointed that all we got (so far) was Zac saying he wanted to ruin our season (good luck with that) and the next baw talking about artificial turf. Playing their songs, chanting a couple of different phrases between each Yell Leader. Making their hand signs and that body position thing. I was expecting more. We did not even get a midnight practice.

Jesus. 7 edits so far? Get your story together and stuck to it, kid.

Do they host recruits to that shite?
Obviously not. If they did, no one would ever commit to Aggie.
I’ve never made fun of any other schools traditions, not even Aggies’. But I actually felt embarrassment on their behalf while watching the first sixty seconds of that clip. “Cringe worthy” doesn’t even begin to describe that.

Seems like a missed opportunity to razz your SEC-contrived rival, but it’s totally understandable that they’d use the time to express their gratitude. I’d do the same.
You guys better not beat us tonight - I’ll be pretty pissed.

TAMU was ALL military until the 1960s.

If belittling that makes you feel better about yourself, more power to you.

Okay, Nathan is done. Do I have two more to go? Only three times did the crowd really come alive and it was for comments about LSU.

Weird mother frickers that’s for sure. I just don’t get how you can do something like this with a straight face. I’d be laughing the whole time
