I know that someone thought that the first yell leader forgot his lines in that poem, but my initial thought was that he got choked up about the never quit line and needed to gather himself.

So, it was a pep rally? With hand signals and hands on their thighs (from time to time).
Okay.
Okay.

Exactly - but this kind of take isn’t exactly the norm on this site

Again, you must remember that Yell Leader is an elected leadership position. Lots of students hold elected leadership positions, myself included back in the day.
But those who choose to run for Yell Leader are the most gung ho of Aggies. They live and breathe that stuff.
It would not be surprising to see them get emotional at their last Yell Practice.

I could not care less about Yell Practice. Hence why I have never watched one (in full - just very brief, embarrassing clips). We love to bag on them but all I saw was a pep rally with hand signals and orchestrated movements. Was just disappointed that we did not get any good lines but I understand that it was the final Yell Practice for three seniors.

quote:if I remember correctly, you were a squad leader back in your youth. I suspect that you used hand signs to convey information to the members of your squad, when verbal communication was not pragmatic.
hand signals
These hand motions serve much the same purpose. They instantaneously convey instructions/commands to 20,000 people scattered over about 120m horizontally and 40m vertically, without a need for carrying or using communication gear.

Most of the time they just tell purposefully corny jokes (I imagine it’s so that the opposing team won’t truly take offense to them) and give the fans/students in attendance a chance to do their traditional cheers and motions. So yes, it’s basically a pep rally but with added movements organized by hand gestures.

Kipp made it a point to mention he has a girlfriend.

Do a&m fans really support this and not think it’s gay? What rainbow world do y’all live in?

What the frick is wrong with them, for real

Did he forget his lines halfway through the poem?

I am going to do you the courtesy of assuming you’re actually making an honest inquiry. I grew up a longhorn fan. Both of my parents attended t.u., and my dad played ball there. I attended A&M for one reason only, money. I was a bright kid, and every school in Texas was throwing scholarships my direction. A&M threw the biggest ones. I told myself that I would attend, take their money, and get a degree. I would not become a “damned Aggie.“ But then you arrive on campus. There is a sense of camaraderie that is very hard to describe. Everyone is friendly, and everyone really seems to want you to be there. I did campus visits in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Waco. You don’t get a similar feeling on any of those campuses. Perhaps LSU is different than those schools. Perhaps there is some uniting element of being a “Tiger.“ But I have attended multiple games in Baton Rouge, and I just don’t see it. All I see is excessive drunkenness, TBH Yell Practice and all the silly-seeming traditions just build on the camaraderie. They create a sense of “belonging“ that exceeds anything I have seen in any other academic institution, and I have degrees from several. Perhaps that sort of thing has no meaning to you. For us, it does. It is who we are. It does not bother us that others do not understand it, but I do personally find it odd that so many people who lack that understanding choose to belittle it.

I am disappointed that LSU did not get an actual “midnight” Yell Practice.
That is bulletin board material as far as I am concerned. Completely disrespecting us

I live in Houston, and there was a monsoon that came through yesterday evening that went through the morning. I imagine that was the reason for the time change.
But still, I’m outraged as well lol

Oh cool an Aggie that can help my research on the cult. I often hear Aggie talking about themselves as a “ traditional football power” and my research is coming up empty on that front. I also hear them call Aggie a “ football “ school. Also the Richie Rich attitude by every Aggie I’ve ever met is curious too. Why does Aggie take pride in their rich alumni and act like they’re all CEO of Exxon Mobile? I’ll hang up and listen.
