Here's the Reason Auburn Couldn't Make a Good Hire

It's very simple. It's because they just fired a guy who has a better record against Sabans than anyone else. Other coaches look at that and say, "no way, man. Nobody beats Sabans but Gus was actually able to do it a few times and they fired him. I want no part of that bullshite."

So they had to settle with someone who was looking to break into the bigs any way he could.

Huge risk. I personally don't think it was a very good hire. They needed someone who dominated at a lower level and Harsin, while pretty good, did not dominate at Boise. A place with vastly better resources than the rest of the schools in their conference.

Bad hire.

They needed a guy who could do more with lower level talent after that last recruiting class.

and Gus was 1-14 on the road again LSU, UGA, and bama. He averaged 4 losses a year. That's not important though.

They got him on the cheap. Not much of a risk financially. He’s simply a stop gap at this point. Not a builder.

So what’s the reason Arky hired a position coach and went 3-7 again?

I don't give a shite about any of that. I'm just telling y'all why your main targets turned you down.

This thread isn't about Arkansas.

This doesn't even make sense, man. Harsin had the best talent in his conference at Boise.

Ding, Ding, Ding! This is one of the main reasons I am perfectly fine with Harsin at Auburn. He isn't a developer. Hell, the dude wasn't that great as the OC at Texas during the Mack years.

So what? If you guys want to talk about Arkansas go start an Arkansas thread and maybe I'll participate. You make it sound like I'm obligated to talk about Arkansas on an SEC board.

You guys just hired a coach. It's news. If you're sensitive about it maybe you should go find a safe space somewhere else, pussy.

Because I know lots of stuff? Plus, you hired Harsin. He wasn't one of your main targets. Couldn't have been. If he was, your decision makers are total idiots. Or then again, maybe he was. Your decision makers do appear to be idiots considering the way they handled Gus' contract.

Because we literally passed on Harsin and did the best we could with our depleted roster?

That's not some 'gotcha' that's hard to answer

There is some truth to that I am sure. But I think it's more of coaches being scared of AU's schedule than it is of who our past coaches were. And if that's the case, frick 'em. Don't want scared coaches.

I respect Harsin for leaving his alma mater and being the big dog in the MWC to come to AU at age 44. Still in the prime of his career and is taking a huge career risk. He must have some confidence in himself and that's a good thing. If he didn't think he could win, it would be a terrible hire.

And, no, I don't think the pay raise was the motivating factor. I think a guy cares more about his future career (and being unemployed) than an immediate pay raise. These guys love coaching more than just the money. You have to in order to make it in that business.
