Here is one from 1847 about Alabama men travelling to Louisiana to slay some strange, and easy, poon.
The tradition lives on to this day, btw.
================
I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee, I'm going to Louisiana, my true love for to see. It rained all night the day I left, the weather it was dry The sun so hot I froze to death, Susanna, don't you cry. ... Oh! Susanna, Oh don't you cry for me, For I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee.

I think Drake has mentioned Kentucky a few times. In fact, they just held practice at his house this past week.

Can't remember any song references to the school, but then Texas basketball player Mo Bamba had that awful hip hop hit song named after him.
WIKI: Mo Bamba (song)

The song is named after then-Texas Longhorn and current Philadelphia 76ers player Mo Bamba, who grew up with Sheck Wes in his home town Harlem, New York neighborhood. The two spent some of their childhoods together.

Wow, 5 pages in and no mention of two huge songs Baton Rouge was mentioned in:
Me and Bobby McGhee by Janis Joplin hit #1 on the Hot 100 in 1971 and mentions Baton Rouge in the first line of the song.
Heart of Rock and Roll by Huey Lewis peaked at #6 on the Hot 100 in 1984 mentions Baton Rouge by name as well.

“Ole Miss: from 1976, "Moonlight Feels Right" by Starbuck (band is from Atlanta), song peaked at #3 on Billboard and was ranked as the 34th Biggest Song of 1976.
"We'll lay back and observe the constellations
And watch the moon smilin' bright
I'll play the radio on southern stations
Cause southern belles are hell at night
You say you came to Baltimore from Ole Miss
Class of seven four gold ring"
Moonlight Feels Right”
An interesting fact about this song is that the songwriter (Bruce Blackman) and one of the original founders of Starbuck actually attended Mississippi State on a track scholarship.

I just youtubed it. I can honestly say I've never heard this song until today.

Probably the only song ever to make the charts with an xylophone solo in it...
It was a big one-hit wonder from the obscure group, Starbuck back in the mid-70s. I think somewhere around 75 or 76 if my memory serves me.
