“I don’t measure our program based on their program,” Smart said. “Our success is based on how we perform. I have the utmost respect for (Alabama coach) Nick (Saban) and the Alabama program.”

My opinion: no, we haven't surpassed Alabama (certainly not in number of titles); perhaps we've come to equal them or surpass them in certain areas, but overall, no.

Back to back natties, including a head to head dub against Bammer means the answer to this question is YES

Definitely a good way for Kirby to answer, though.

The next two seasons will be the most telling....should UGA win the SEC again along with a 3rd-straight national title, and sustain that success going into the 2024 season, then yes, I'd say this would confirm that UGA has, indeed, surpassed Alabama.

Auburn, Bama, Florida, and Tennessee just needs to conspire to knock you down a peg.

We have already put up with Saban.

why wait 2 season? We have passed them if we're talking abotu the right here and now. I mean what logical argument could anyone POSSIBLy make that the back to back defending national champs that haven't lost a regular season game since 2020 woudl take a backseat to anyone?

Of course we ahvent' passed them as an overall prgoram and we never will, neither will anyone else. But as of right thgis minute of coruse we have.

At this point, I believe we've equaled Bama, but haven't surpassed them. Depending upon what we do in '23 could be telling, but sustaining that into '24 would certainly cement it.

Sustainability at the highest level is the hallmark of a dynasty. Bama achieved that. We're about to achieve it if we keep going.

UGA is probably the better team right now, but that head to head record is pretty lopsided in Bama’s favor for the last 15 years or so.

UGA has a looooong way to go to surpass Bama as an elite national program.

We have a long way to go in terms of the number of titles, but not as an elite national program. UGA has EQUALED Bama for sure in this regard. In fact, UGA is probably regarded by many right now as THE premier football program in the country based on the past few years.

Why answer a question like this? There is no right answer because "surpassing another program" isn't true until it's so obvious the question no longer gets asked. Kirby is smart to avoid clown questions like this. Pun intended and not intended.

No. UGA was extremely lucky to dodge A1abama this past year.

If you are looking at the next 5-10 years I think almost everyone would say UGA is in a better position. Kirby has already won two, and is 24 years younger than Saban.

I don't know if UGA will ever surpass Bama as an overall brand/program, but they are creeping up quick as a program all time for sure now that they have some more National Titles to back up the claims

One of these is not like the other…

That is, the one with the Sun Bely caliber coach while the other ones have legit P5 caliber ones…

Has UGA surpassed Bama historically? No way.
Is UGA better than Bama right now. Absolutely.

It also has to be factored in that most of Saban’s success came because of Kirby.

The only titles Saban won without kirby was a back door title in 2017 and a Covid year “bubble” title in 2020.

Kirby has matched that himself already and is just getting started

This is a weird way to look at it. Kirby isn't the coach he is today with that decade studying under Saban.

Kirby grew up in bainbridge ga, an hour from Tallahassee. He grew up a fan of Bobby Bowden who inspired him to strive to become one of the greatest coaches of all time

Now this is a good take.

Back to topic, depends on what you mean. I think if most people had to bet on which program will have more success the next 3, 5, 10 years most people would put money on Georgia.

But we are a long long way from having the success Bama has. It's doable but everything has to fall in place.

Agree. It's all subjective. But, someone asked Kirby that question so he answered it.

Technically, they have already surpassed them and another Natty will mean they have far surpassed them
