Tennessee hasn't been the same since Saban beat them 41-17 that first year. They fired Fulmer the following season and it's been one frick up after another since.

We should have covered up for TM7. If he's on the field Yeldon doesn't score and I also doubt we lose to Florida.

Not only was he one of the most exciting playmakers ive ever seen in college but he was also the emotional leader of the defense. Who cares if he smoked a few doobies?

Saban killed Fulmer and UT in the 2001 SEC Championship game, they were never contenders after that. Seems to be a habit with him.

Saban has to come to Columbia again in a couple of years.

Now, truth be known The Gamecocks have forced more coaches-out than Saban ever thought of ... Johnny Majors, Phil Fulmer, Butch the Bitch - hell, we even got Muschamp himself fired at UF. There have been others.

But the one head we want on our wall is Saban's. It would be like bagging a 28 pt typical whitetail with a four foot spread.

So, when Saban comes back to Columbia in 2019 ... it might very well be his last year coaching. And also, let's face it, all great Kings want to be replaced by one of their own. It's either going to be Kirby or Boom that gets him. Doubtful that Jimbo will do it and UF with Mullen would have to wait until they meet him in the SECCG and that could be awhile for UF. Pruitt at UT could do it I suppose ... I dunno. Perhaps if UT were to turn it around and best Saban a couple of years in a row that might cause Saban to quit ... but that's not likely to happen before Kirby or Boom one gets him.

ETA: Why on God's green earth has this thread been anchored? Please tell me it's not because the gist of thr thread was about LSU? Good gosh ... this is bad. This is really bad optics.

1/7/2010 Texas vs Alabama. Bama broke the Texas football program.

2011 - 13-1, #2, SEC Champs, Lost in National Title Game to Alabama, greatest regular season maybe in CFB History

I really can't see how you can say that.

Off the top of my head, the 96 (think that is right year) and 71 Cornhusker teams were head and shoulders above anything LSU did that year.

Heck the 91 (again, off the top of my head) Alabama team was utterly dominant that year, moreso than LSU was. You could tell from game 1, no one was beating them, that defense was that good.

I watched that LSU team. I've seen a lot of teams over the years. Not even trying to pull on tiger whiskers, but while it was an obvious national title quality team, it definitely wasn't some kind of all time thing.

I was too young to know what was going on, so I'll ignore the 71 Huskers.

But that 96 Nebraska team was the best I've seen.

That year LSU beat the Pac-12 Champs, the Big East Champs, Alabama, and 5 OTHER ranked teams, including the #3 team. And other than Alabama those games were blowouts.

Combining SOS and margin of victory i'm pretty sure it's the best regular season ever. Whatever that's worth.

I just looked up 71 Nebraska and they played 2 ranked teams all year before the bowl game.

Mett actually played a really good game in 2012. It was his coming out party, he was pretty meh coming into that.

Yea I meant 2013 Mett showed up in the 2012 Alabama game. Poorly worded.

You just named teams that were better "teams" maybe. That's debatable.

LSU's regular season resume shits on any of those Nebraska teams.

Wins (end of year ranking)
@ #1 Alabama (National Champs)
N vs #4 Oregon (Pac 10 Champs)
vs #5 Arkansas
@ #17 West Virginia (Big East Champs)
N vs #19 Georgia

- 3 Top 5 wins
- 5 Top 20 wins (4 of them away from Tiger Stadium)
- wins over the National Champ, Big East Champ and Pac 10 Champ

#1 Alabama, #4 Oregon and #5 Arkansas went a combined 35-5. 3 of those 5 losses were to LSU (4 of the 5 losses were to Alabama or LSU).

The 2011 loss did not plummet their program. LSU went into 2 more Alabama games post 2011 (2012 and 2015) in control of their own destiny for the West, SEC and National Titles.

It was the beginning of the end though when tDecline became real and palpable.
