All of his money was in the car and was stolen. The "borrowed" money was because he was broke, not for a deductible.
Could have gotten an emergency loan from the University for this right away, but both he and the assistant strength coach made a poor decision.
I know most of you frickers would love for this to be the beginning of the end so your school would have a chance in the SEC. But, frick you.

Wrong. Scooters is the correct answer.

I guess the real question is for the NCAA to determine if the $500 is significant, the university did what it was suppose to, and when it was actually repaid. Everything I have read always eludes back to the quoted part from the NCAA. That they are ineligible until they repay it and for anything over $100 the NCAA determines if more punishment is needed. If he he repaid it before the season then he should not be considered ineligible for any games he was in.
This goes back to the question I asked-
The University did NOT do what it was supposed to do.
A paid employee of the university of alabama knowingly and willfully violated an NCAA rule by giving the player and impermissible benefit.
The said representative violated rules by not reporting it. Then as a member of the football staff he allowed a player who was ineligible to play.
Ergo "the university" didn't report it as soon as the knew.
And it's not the "paying it back" that makes him eligible but applying for reinstatement with the NCAA, correct?
I think of the Cam Newton situation where Auburn determine him ineligible and then he was reinstated by the NCAA
HCD might only get a 1-3 game suspension...but I think that party that could really be in trouble here is the University. Will they be held accountable for the actions of a university employee and member of the coaching staff that committed at least three NCAA violations?

Even if that story is true, that doesn't make it suddenly NCAA legal for a coach to give a player money

UA will terminate his employment and the NCAA will slap the guy with a show cause label for 3 years or something like that.

Comprehend much?
I said he and the coach made a bad decision. I never said it was suddenly legal.
