Today in Baldwin County, Alabama history is being made. The first Buc-ee's outside of the state of Texas has opened.

For those that don't know, Buc-ee's is a gas station you'll fall in love with. Their bathrooms are always clean. They never have a line for gas, restroom, or register. Their food is awesome, both fresh and pre packaged. They have a lot of branded snacks. Tons of beef jerky, fudge, kolaches, and more. It's a magical place with a cute little beaver mascot.

Like many great things in this world, the concept was started by an Aggie Entrepreneur. The management at Buc-ee's believes in paying their employees at least $12/hour and providing paid vacation for both PT and FT employees. The attitude of their workers shows. It seems like a great place to hold down a job.

Be careful. It's hard not to spend half an hour here. Place is the size of a medium grocery store.

I wish they would build more locations in urban population centers. Their strategy has always been to pick a busy highway intersection and build there to get traffic going to and from all directions.

I'd imagine the TMS location is booming.

Anytime I go out to East Texas I always stop in Terrell and fill up with gas and get snacks for the trip. If I go see family in Houston or Austin, there are locations along the way.

We used to have a similar chain in Florida called Stuckey's. I think they all closed though. Anyone who's driven down to the panhandle (particularly PCB) in the 80s or 90s knows what I'm talking about.

I'm really just messing and wanted to use the 'practice' quote.

My fave chinese place is on the side of (connected to) a gas station so I won't judge.

Figured that out on my first visit.. zero UT merchandise.

Classic, I'd likely pull that as well.

Actually they do have UT merch. They just have far more Aggie merch. Smart business choice.

The nuggies (spicy ones) are a must. Also some beef jerky, sour punch straws, and sometimes some chocolate pretzels. I end up having solid snacks for the whole week after my trip.

I got a pretty good chopped brisket sandwich at the one in Terrell. It is the size of a small Walmart. They sell a lot of souvenirs and kitsch. I heard they were trying to have one between BR and NOLA.
