I got the varsity once when my family moved to Athens in 1996. That was enough. I do love Rafferty’s though—make sure to go to the mall afterward.

Surprised nobody mentioned The Varsity for a burger

Lol. The Varsity?

Comon bro. This may be my first time to Athens, but I've been to THE Varsity near Georgia Tech a bunch.

I imagine it being a smaller rendition in Athens.

If you're ever in Athens on Sunday, try The Place for brunch. Anything on the menu's good, but get a Proud Mary (Bloody Mary) if you're hungover. Even if you're not.

The list TearsofKnowshon provided is better than anything I could have done.

If you get there early enough, you could try to play the UGA course. Pretty solid track that’s generally in good shape (although I know sometimes in the winter it’s not ideal).

Dude you’re in danger of having tour man card suspended - using the word brunch in conversation. cheers

Is that legal now? Did that go into effect? I know it passed, but is it in force now?

Use to was, you couldn't serve alcohol before 12:30 so people would go to "lunch" for "breakfast" so it was called "brunch", and alot of places didn't even bother opening before noon because of that.

I'm not a big Cobb Dawg fan, but he's correct in using the work "brunch" in reference to Athens breakfast.

Much appreciated, everyone!

I'm sure I'll enjoy it, even if my time there is limited this trip. Maybe it'll inspire me to come back for a Georgia football game on a Florida off week or something.

dude...why do you think people go nuts for brunch, just because they like eating breakfast 2 hours later? Bottomless mimosas and bloody marys are pretty much a staple at any place that people eat brunch, that's the whole point.

Depends on your age. If you are a bit older (IE not in your 20s) and

Want a nice dinner
Last Resort
South Kitchen (both downtown) - Shrimp and Grits or the Fried chicken are just flat out awesome.. Nice drinks as well.
Seabear - Oysters are fantastic - This is a bit of walk in Bottle works

Great bar scene
5 Bar
The Office
Trapeeze

Breweries
Creature Comfort for sure

If you want to drive a bit down Atlanta highway by the mall there is Akademia Has food etc

More laid back
take your pick...

Avoid the Varsity unless you have 30 second or less access to a commode at all times...

May want to run by some local sites just walk around downtown. Check out Wuxtry records (if you are into Music) and local shops and pubs.

You could burn a day in and around athens.
