I'll be heading up to Athens for the basketball game this Saturday. It'll be my first time Athens - any suggestions on what to do for a short day in Athens? Places to eat? Breweries?

Thanks in advance.

Breweries?

Terrapin
Creature Comforts
Southern Brewing Company

All great. Terrapin and Creature Comforts are 1-2 in some order. I'd definitely try to make it to one of them.

I'll give you a more detailed response later or look for a former post that had a ton of great info. Makes me think we need a permanent thread people can look for when they go to each different SEC city.

Hit the bars, Athens is home to one of the best night scenes in the conference. All of them are conveniently located down town across from campus.

Thanks. It's a pretty quick trip since I have to be in Atlanta that evening, but something I can hit up quickly. It's suppose to rain as well, so I donno how conducive it'll be for walking around downtown much.

Looking forward to it either way.

Definitely start at Creature Comforts and there’s a place across the street called the National which is great for dinner. From there, just work your way through downtown. You can’t really go wrong.

Raffertys is a must eat. Try the good ole boy fries. Barrberitos if you don't have any there.

In order:

1. Creature Comforts for a flight
2. World Famous for pretzel bites with the honey dip
3. Georgia Theater rooftop for a drink
4. Wander into any bar on Clayton St. that catches your eye, enjoy 2 drinks.
5. Uber to Stegman for the game
6. Watch Florida lose
7. Uber back downtown, dinner and drinks at a restaurant called 5
8. Return home, brag on Athens

I like barb's as much as the next guy, but I mean if the guy is making a first trip to the classic city I'm not gonna steer him towards a chain burrito joint.

The chain restaurant you can get anywhere? Is there something special about the Athens location?

Side note they are apparently not in FL according the website.

If you are looking for a decent bite to eat. Grindhouse Killer Burgers is incredible.

The Grill is a classic, but I was never super impressed by it.

- Mama's Boy for breakfast (FYI parking can be difficult to
find along with long lines.)
- Cali N' Tito's off of Lumpkin Street for Lunch (I'm not
sure if it's still cash only or not.)
- Definitely recommend Creature Comforts brewery.
- I also recommend Allgood for drinks.

Don't wear Barn clothes or you'll get spat on.

Surprised nobody mentioned The Varsity for a burger. I know it will make your arteries scream, but that's the first place my daughter in law wanted to eat at during her first trip to Athens.
