UF will lead a consortium dedicated to medical marijuana research. What to know:

The consortium will be state-funded

UF will be awarded $1.5 million per year for research efforts

Around $600,000 of the $1.5 million will be used to establish a grant program for other institutions conducting similar research

Pending approval by the consortium’s board, UF faculty members Dr. Almut Winterstein and Dr. Robert Cook will lead the research efforts

Good for them. Marijuana, medical and recreational, should be legal nationwide anyway. If hard liquor is legal there is no legitimate reason weed shouldn't be either

Is that what it takes to enjoy Gainesville? I've been doing it all wrong.

I can save money for the study and let them know that it causes extreme euphoria and increased ice cream consumption.*

“SWIM” look up what that means. Oh hell… “Someone Who Isn’t Me” thinks weed and it’s by products should have been legal a long time ago. SWIMS consumption used to be higher than it is now.

Because medical marijuana isn't legal in Mississippi?

Just a guess.

Also, medical in Oklahoma is so easy to get it might as well be recreational.

It's harder in Arkansas.

I think end of last year they celebrated their 50th year of growing marijuana for the federal government.

Maybe. I was thinking Ole Miss had exclusive rights to federally funded marijuana research, but it looks like that changed in 2016.

quote:

Under the 1961 international Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs and the 1970 Controlled Substances Act, the federal government is the single “agent” allowed to provide marijuana for research.

As of now, the DEA has only authorized one grower, the University of Mississippi, which grows marijuana under contract with the National Institute on Drug Abuse. As part of this contract, UM holds a DEA Schedule-I Bulk Manufacturer registration to cultivate plants for this purpose. However, in 2016 DEA announced a new interpretation of the Single Convention to allow other growers to cultivate marijuana to supply researchers.

As of July 2017, UM is unaware of any growers who have been approved under this new program.

That map is a bit outdated; Missouri now has medical marijuana.
