but this thread has nothing to do with its use for commitments. We have used the gesture and said spurs up for a while. This is the first time I can remember that someone has given us "spurs down" ....and honestly it was kind of a dumb celebration from a bench player who just came into the game after it was decided

The hand signal was traditionally done during the "USC - GO COCKS" cheer during football and basketball games.
Never heard it called Spurs Up til Muschamp's wife named it.
As far as baseball getting the shite kicked out of them, I don't know if the Carolina baseball program is ever coming back. It's a shadow of what it was 10 years ago, and *that* was a shadow of what it was 10 years before that. I miss it, but it's got no life left in it.
