Most Consecutive Games Without Defeat 64—Washington, 1907-17 (4 ties) (since 1937) 48—Oklahoma, 1953-57 (1 tie) I knew about the Oklahoma streak, but I'd never heard of the Washington one. That's damn impressive.
Washington’s winning streak was only 40 & was partly as a D2 school. OUs winning streak was 47 & is the D1 record.

Isn't Reaves Kiffin's father in law?
I do know he was a junkie.

You know, sometimes I wonder if the NCAA just makes up some pre-1950s shite just to make us wonder how it would be possible.
Well, I was there and while legally I can't talk about the specifics until the year 2100, I can say that there was some mighty suspicionating stuff going on

When you feel like your best chance of scoring is on defense. I actually get this.

Yes. He was an alcohol and drug addict.

Yeah ... Reaves was good
He had a damn good receiver.
Interestingly enough, I had met him several times both when Brad Scott was here and when Lou Holtz was here (not when Spurrier was here ironically enough). Had even been to his home a couple of times for a couple of different reasons.
He was an interesting guy, but he drank a lot and I suspect he had other issues. His son is a crooked frick pos, his daughter married Lane Kiffin and he died a rough death God Bless him. He was a helluva good QB and a good guy at heart.

The game had 77 punts. You read that correctly — 77 punts. In fact, during one stretch during the third and fourth quarters, the two teams punted on 22 consecutive plays (all first downs). Why? They were hoping for a fumble because the weather and field conditions were so bad
Step 1: Punt on first down
Step 2: Opponent fumbles
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit

It's interesting how the quick kick has vanished from the game. In today's world of flags for big hits and an increased emphasis on passing, I suppose it no longer has a place. I imagine there would be quite an uproar if a coach in the SEC started to regularly punt on third, or even first and second downs that didn't look favorable to him, in the hopes that the other team's offense would screw up and turn the ball back over on their own side of the field. But I know Bryant was quick-kicking as late as the 70's, and I'm sure other coaches were too, so it's not like this was only a strategy from back in the single-wing days when there might only be fifteen or so passes total in a game.
