I don't think FSU is better than Bama. FSU has an incredible defense so they shouldn't be counted out though. But that is completely subjective. I think Mizzou could beat a significant amount of teams above them, but they are not deserving of a playoff berth.

Texas is the weakest link when it comes to resume. They have the head to head but BAMA has more wins. They're the ones taking FSU's spot.

I wouldn't say there was an "outcry" for SMU but I've heard some people saying they were screwed. SMU got killed by TCU and that's why they aren't in. In 2021 they chose undefeated Cincy over two loss Baylor. Baylor was obviously the better team, yet they chose Cincy (who lost by 21 in the playoff game). Just wish it would be consistent.
