that would be a shame and a waste with all the talent they have/are bringing in the last year or two. If Jones is half the coach their fans are hoping and claiming, next year will be Tennessee's breakout year. If they are on the bottom half of the East next year with that roster then we will all know Jones ain't the guy to bring UT back into the national picture.

Talent takes time to develop... right now they have serious voids at critical positions like QB, DL, and OL... That's a recipe for terrible football. They also have maybe the slowest back seven in the conference... and one of the worst tackling teams last year.

Their defensive staff will need to be overhauled after this season IMO.

It is apparent you do not follow UT football very closely. Our back 7 will be in the upper half of the league in terms of speed. 2015-2016 UT secondary may be the fastest in the SEC.

Ha, no doubt. Talk about the lines all you want, but the back is gonna be good

I'm not at every practice... but your lack of team speed on defense last year was astounding... the auburn and Oregon games were boat races... Bama's WRs were running past your DBs... and you guys had no answer for mizzou's athleticism on the outside.

And on top of that, they can't tackle... it's a bad defense.

We're gonna be young as hell in the secondary but Butch brought in an huge DB class last year and they all have speed. I'm expecting to see some blown coverages this year due to freshman mistakes but teams aren't going to be blowing by these DBs once they hit the second level like we've seen the past few years imo.

Or any practice for that matter.

Key phrase: last year. What you saw last year is what remained from the Dooley era. Let's not predict a year from now until we see some semblance of what the new defense will look like. Team speed will be vastly improved. That is a fact.

Thanks for the kind words everybody! I really enjoyed doing my portion of the write up and want to thank Semo and Nino for the opportunity!

I really think Tennessee has the ability to surprise folks and win 6 or 7 games.

Go Vols!

Tennessee's secondary is going to be really good this year, and for the next few. That's the strongest part of their defense. Phil Steele has their secondary as being the fourth best in the league, and i agree with Phil on that point.

Speed takes time to develop?

What about posting skills? What's the development period on those? Or could it be like speed...you either got it or you don't?

That's a bit of an overreaction...

Why you rolling your eyes at that? It's the 118th Team we've fielded - last year was Team 117.

You forgot to add...because college football started in the 1990's.

It will be interesting to track how much better this team is playing in November than they are in September.
