10 out of 10 LSU fans agree.

AM is closer to Georgia, Kentucky, LSU and Arkansas than they are Florida.

If you are going to have a Big _______, it would have to be Big 1 with Florida.

Not if you are talking about overall Athletic Departments.

Sure, for most, if not all, of us, football is king, and nobody is weighting the sports. They are evaluating a sports program, which means....more than football counts.

This is not quite correct. The difference is the NCAA gets no football money but NCAA gets all the basketball money. If you added this money back (about a billion or two a year) the basketball schools would be much closer and some would surpass football. Before the realignment in 2010 it should be noted that 3 of the 5 most valuable broadcast rights were basketball schools.

UNC
UK
KU

Before they were sold to IMG College, Host communications in Lexington KY was the pioneer in college sports media deals. UK basketball - with it's vast radio and TV network - covered the team well beyond the state borders.

Track & Field is not an equal to football as it commands a 6x multiplier. This is the reason the PAC has been able to rack up so many NCAA championships. One of the main schools where Track & Field supports the football is Oregon. Phil Knight aka NIKE has used his T&F money to finance football for the Ducks.

Football = fall points for male only sport

Cross Country = fall points for male + fall points for female
Indoor Track & Field = winter points for male + winter points for female
Outdoor Track & Field = spring points for male + spring points for female

Other points to consider about the sports at the college and national level

1) Football is mainly an American sport / Track & Field is a global sport
2) Football is not an olympic sport / Track & Field is an olympic sport
3) Football do not migrate athletes to T&F / T&F migrates athletes to other college sports
(Lots of T&F recruits wind up in basketball and other sports)

It's an athletic department ranking, not a football ranking. Try not to suck at everything other than football and softball.

Interesting article.

I'd give up a few years of Director's Cups for a football or even a men's basketball championship, but ultimately, as long as they can remain a bit scary in football, Stanford has it's niche.

44. Mississippi State
Best sports: baseball, women’s basketball. Trajectory: steady. Tough losses kept the Bulldogs from a pair of Final Fours, on the diamond and the hardwood, but the year still ended with a fourth straight Top 50 finish. Fall sports didn’t make a huge impact, but that’s not unusual for Mississippi State.

Unfortunately, Vandy doesn’t offer or support as many varsity sports programs as they can/should. No reason Vandy shouldn’t have Men’s Soccer, Volleyball or Softball at the least.

Sports that AD does have are generally competitive, minus last season’s basketball disaster, but more offerings are needed and likely are sports Vandy could excel.

Not even the schools themselves believe they are equal.

Name the last AD who was fired because of poor track and field performance and hires. I doubt even Oregon would do so.

And yet that is somewhat common when it comes to football. Most recently we saw it hardcore at Tennessee and LSU.

Yep, Phil Knight wants that football program to be tops extremely bad.

If the Dores did this, 1 more team added in the East and it becomes an official SEC sport.

Volleyball or Softball

Gymnastics as well, all 3 would be better SEC fit than bowling and lacrosse but it is what it is. As long as Vanderbilt (SEC) keeps the Nebraska (B1G) in check in bowling I am all for it tho.

All this list tells me is that women’s field hockey obviously means a lot to a poofter like Forde.

Who claimed they were? most people would rather have a Football National Championship, rather than Tennis, swimming, lacross or whatever. The point is this is for overall athletics.

I can name some AD's who were fired because their overall athletic departments were not good.

I'd love for this to happen for Alabama. Would certainly make things easier for Georgia.

How can you accurately judge the overall athletics department while knowingly ignoring such a fact?

It's apples and oranges.
