No it's not. Almost every metric they use is strictly undergrad focused.

this list has nothing to do with graduate schools---if you want a source for graduate schools, USN would be a solid source, however, that is not the aim of forbes rankings----
The Forbes rankings are complete and total garbage. 33% of their ranking comes from ratemyprofessor.com and that stupid Who's Who book selling scheme. I don't know how you can possibly denounce US News' ranking system which utilizes actual undergraduate data (admissions info, class sizes, spending per student, etc.) while endorsing this garbage.

Who knew adding South Carolina would improve the SEC's academic ranking?

I'd also like to point out, we get the joy of throwing more salt on the '09-10 SC > Clemson wound because Clemson is 54 spots behind us in those rankings.
(and CCU is dead last

The usual suspects. Then a huuuuge dropoff.

The only thing that is suspect is that UGA, just recently named #1 party school, is that high on the list.

Right...
Hey apparently UGA is a great university overall. #1 party school, great athletics, and great academics. Well rounded if you ask me.

Can't tell if this list is a joke or something. Here's what stood out to me (US News&WR rankings):
10. Cal Berkeley at 65 (21)
9. University of Pennsylvania at 36 (4)
8. University of Southern Cal at 112 (26)
7. UM Ann Arbor 92 (27)
6. Johns Hopkins at 88? What? (14)
5. UT Austin @ 138 (50)
4. Texas A&M is ranked 194 (61)
3. Penn State University is ranked 192 (50)
2. Florida State... Yes the Seminoles ranked right in between the previous two at 193 (102)
1. What has to be most shocking about these rankings is Georgia Tech at 242 (35) Holy cow.

not exactly and certainly not the one referenced in this thread with the auburn rankings. US News does several different rankings. the national one (the one being discussed in comparison to the forbes rankings) focuses on a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and Ph.D. programs, and emphasize faculty research...

i didnt denounce anything, just explaining that there are differences in the two subjective poll criterias.

You are taking this quote out of context. US News&WR doesn't emphasize faculty research in their rankings, rather, they use schools that place emphasis in this area to categorize them into "national universities". After classifying, they then go on to rank them according to criteria with associated weights which per their section on methodology, are as follows:
Peer assessment 25%
Retention 20%
Faculty Resources 20%
Student Selectivity 15%
Financial Resources 10%
Graduation Rate Performance 5%
Alumni Giving Rate 5%

Exactly, the guy clearly has no idea what he's talking about. Most of those metrics are strictly undergraduate focused, and the ones that can be argued encompass the entire university (alumni giving, faculty resources, etc.). US News doesn't factor in one single graduate focused metric into their UNDERGRAD rankings.

like i said the USNs focus is on schools with graduate programs...a lot of schools in the forbes list dont any even have graduate programs. the two rankings have an entirely different focus----is it that hard to comprehend?
