Parks and Recreations/Southern Studies Master Programs

You know, we're the only school in the nation with a Southern Studies master's program. It's actually done a lot for the university (ever wonder why the Southern Foodways Alliance or the National Conference on The Book are held in Oxford?)

well since this list has *private* schools in it as well---it might possibly explain the drop in said *public* schools---

What's the criteria that goes in to these rankings?

I heard that it was from the students rating their professors or something like that. Check the OT. They have a similar thread.

This is what some people aren't considering for some reason.

I can honestly say, NO, I've never wondered about that.

I really hate pre-season polls.

This will change by the time College Quiz Bowl season comes around...then we'll see where we sit.

Yeah, I'm not trying to get in a pissing match, because after the top 3 it's a big drop off, but I can't remember any other ranking of academics where Auburn was outside the top 5 or 6.

I understand that but if we are 33rd out of public institutions and now this list has us at 400+ we would have to assume that there are 350+ private schools. Lulz.

There are 1,600 private, nonprofit institutions nationwide. Half of the nonprofit colleges and universities in the United States are private. We enroll 3.4 million students.

I didn't realize there are that many private schools but this list shows MSU and OM in front of Auburn. That is pretty funny.

I think his point was that if AU is top 4/5 in every other poll/list, than it's unusual to be listed so far down. I agree, seeing that both ole miss and miss st is a tier 2 or 3 school. AU/UT/UK should be way above you guys.

ETA: top 4/5 in the SEC

Cornell is 196 on that list. That was the first thing that I noticed and UT-Austin isn't even 150. The list is a joke.
